THANK A VET

If you are one, THANK YOU. If you're going to be one someday, THANK YOU. If you sacrificed a loved one to war before s/he had a chance to become one, THANK YOU.

I hopped up on my soapbox here & after some thought, deleted it all. Let me just say, Veterans Day is in honor of ALL veterans. We had veterans long before we had this war in Iraq.

Thank you. Thank you ALL.

I want to thank each and every veteran out there. We sit here in our homes and have no idea what you are going (and have gone) through just so we can enjoy our freedom which most of us take for granted. Your sacrifice is appreciated.

seen a news article the other day said 25% of the homeless were veterans. I wonder who the other 75% were. The lazy, can't imagine an a**kisser as being homeless. very few homeless in Clay co. If they are homeless they're not voting right. Sell your vote, get on welfare. any and all gov. subsidy programs are available.

ROSE said...

That's a sad statistic. Personally, I think if you've served our country, you deserve a free ride for the rest of your life. I don't owe deadbeats a blessed thing. I don't owe those who are too stinkin' lazy to work a blessed thing. But dammit, we all owe our veterans. (I feel my soapbox unfolding ...) Very few things irritate me as much as vets who can't afford medical care because the VA hospital is too far away & they don't qualify for Medicaid because they "make too much money." I don't care if you rake in a bizzillion bucks a day, if you're part of why our country is free today, the very least you deserve is free medical attention. Especially if your medical issues are a direct result of that service.

Yes, I know a lot of people who have retired from the military & never saw a day of combat in their lives. Yes, most of those who commited 20 years or more of their lives are "set for life." That's as it should be. If you're retired military & you never left your desk, you're still retired military, willing to do whatever you were told to protect & serve our country.

It's the ones who were drafted & shafted that set my soapbox on fire ...

Cool your box down Rose, better days are coming, the Hill-Monster will see to that.

As a Viet Nam vet I know lots of guys who have gotten the shaft over medical benefits with myself included. Veterans should not have to pay a cent for medical coverage when they come back from a war but trust me the Viet Nam vets pay and pay thru the nose not only for medical benefits but had to get looked over when it come to jobs and life itself.
As for the homeless vets out there there were many things that has happened to them since VN and the other wars since then also. Many lost their homes because of job situations, divorce and other medical reasons. Some volunteer to be homeless because they cannot cope with life and its many downfalls.
Myself I came home from a war that should not have been fought and have fought every battle you can imagine here on the homeland but I am also blessed with a good strong family background and close nit family also so I am one of the fortunate ones and count my blessings every day.
God Bless America and God bless all Veterans across this country. God help those who criticise what we have done for this country and remember the draft dodgers running for President when you go to vote as to what a mess they made this country.

AMEN.

Here's a thought. How about we take all the long term criminals out of our over-crowded prisons & give them a one-way ticket to Iraq? Then we can take all the able-bodied welfare recipients who say they're only getting welfare because "they ain't no jobs around here" & send them over there, too.

That way, the criminals could "clean up" (a lot of them are murderers, anyway, so they wouldn't require much training) while the welfare suckers rebuild the land (they say they want jobs, right?). THEN, instead of deporting them, we could send over all the illegal immigrants we can round up & send them over, too. They could teach the nice Iraqis how to do their own manual labor without complaining about it.

There. See how easy? I've solved the illegal immigrant problem, I've solved the prison over-crowding problem and I've solved the welfare problem.

The added bonus is that our real soldiers could come home, guard our own borders, teach our own kids to read, rebuild our own lands that have been ravished by hurricanes, tornadoes, fires & such AND they could do it without having to worry about some ingrate shooting them in the back for their trouble.

The Hill Monster would never stand a chance against ME ...

Anonymous said...

I am in total agreement with you, Rose. Also, don't you think it's a dirty crying shame that our soldiers have to have a high school diploma just to get shot? I think that all welfare recipients (men and women alike) should have to serve their country for their checks. Send that thought to the Hill Monster.

Anonymous said...

Also, don't you think that most of the welfare recipients quit school so they won't have a diploma so they won't have to serve? Isn't that the ultimate draft dodger?

is true many dont know what vets go through and i see many young people putting down veterans. the same young people are the same ones that aren't taught to stand when the national anthem is being played. go to a local ball game within our county and watch parents and kids. i feel like finding the parents of those kids and tell them they have failed in child rearing. we are patriotic compared to most places, but their are a few in every neighborhood. we need to be teaching our young to respect our nation and the ones keeping her safe.

as far as people not knowing what we go through i have been in the place called iraq and it is compareable to a place called hell. i was there right after the first war as part of security force and it wasnt to bad.

then i was there for this war and there is nothing that can prepare a person for the daily mortars raining fire and hell from afar. nothing to prepare young soldiers for the intense firefights. nothing to prepare soldiers for the sites of civilians dead. in the height of the war the insurgents were killing thousands a day. we never hear that part. that is why we stayed there so long. to stop the violence and i am proud to do my part and most other soldiers are too. when a soldier carries a small girl through a medical unit and she dies in that soldiers arms there is nothing to prepare.

Soldiers train for war to prepare, but nothing NOTHING truly prepares the men and women. these men and women especially the young, come back scarred for life, veterans are about 13% of the population but make up 25-30% of all homeless.

please write your congresspeople and stress that you support benefits for veterans.

Anonymous said...

Once again the CCC has proved out to be the joke of the county once again. Remember we have a saying around the county if its a "dead horse" let the CCC pour money into it.
Read AW's site as where Lupardis has once again broke it off in the Taxpayers by sticking them with a two mile stretch of railroad. Also wanting to stick it to you with keeping the dilapidated Dundon Bridge to pour tas dollars into from now on til who knows when.
Nothing new to Clayberry to pour money down the drain with no benefit to anyone in sight.

ROSE said...

"please write your congresspeople and stress that you support benefits for veterans." ....

I have addresses for all our delegates, senators, representatives, etc etc etc if anybody actually wants to put pen to paper.

The CCC seems so far removed from anything that affects my life at all. I'm on the red-headed step-child end of the county ...

Anonymous said...

Oh how I love a red headed woman!!

Anonymous said...

I'm with you Ms Rose the CCC has their heads up their Arse when it comes to helping the people just like our Congress when it comes to the protection of American People.

I got an email a couple days back where our senators running for President voted against keeping the English Language as our nations Language. Obama won't wear a lapel pin with the Flag on it.

I think a good pair of cement shoes weighing 500 pounds each and the deepest part of the ocean is what is need for people who go against this country. Being against a political party is one thing but high treason against what our Veterans have fought and died for is just that (HIGH TREASON) and they should be hanged accordingly.

I don't think Andy's ever denied he's full of sh*t. Nor has he ever hesitated to tell the whole world about it. What generally p*sses people off, though, is the fact that he's never really given a rip. In fact, he seems quite happy about it. Which also p*sses people off.

I also was constipated a while back and after about a week of it I was willing to try any thing anybody could come up with.
As some know my mother is 91 years old and very knowledgeable about things of the world. Anyways, she called to check on me and I told her about the constipation for almost a week. She told me she had just exactly what I needed and would bring it right over.

Well mom shows up with a half gallon of orange juice and one of them suppository things. I opened the orange juice and poured me a large glass, popping the suppository in my mouth and a big gulp of orange juice and that bad boy was down the hatch.
A couple hours later mom called back and asked how things were for me after using the suppository and I told her for all the good it done I should have stuffed it up my a**

About that stone carving on White Pilgrim road, could someone please tell us former Clay Countians (who didn't know the stones existed) the story? AW said it was in his Communicator, so if anyone would read and share, it would be appreciated immensely.

I would still like to know about the stones. Has anyone read the Communicator?? Does anyone read it??

Maybe those were just AWs kidney stones.

I did read that Jack got all 4 people out of their car(s?). It's hard to imagine it could've been a lot worse.

Incidentally, I meant to make a big to-do on the 18th about this website being TWO YEARS OLD!! But then I totally forgot about it ... LOL

Anonymous said...

Two years??? It seems longer than that really. (I mean that in the best possible way.)
It's kind of like Cheers. (Except no one hollers CB!!!! when I post. BAHAHAHA!) All the regulars stick around and every once in a while someone new or a trouble maker pops in.

Two whole years. This thing's been like a lifetime commitment. teeheehee

Here's something that causes *me* to bunch. All the good shows were on TV when TV was free. Now we pay out the nose to see blood & guts & innards & such on every channel.

ROSE said...

Maybe I should read The Only News That's Real News (yes, AW's site) first.

Did they find the dude from Mt. Olive?? What school was on lockdown?

Ya know, on my way to work yesterday, I saw some guys in orange, picking up trash along the interstate. There were 4 guys in orange - 2 on one side of the road, 2 on the other. There were 2 guys in brown keeping an eye on them. What struck me was that the 4 in orange, while "together," weren't really connected at the hip. I wonder if anybody's ever just pulled over, opened their door & let one of the guys in orange hop in?

Anonymous said...

It would be easy enough to do and not only that those brown guys weren't close enough to their vehicles to be able to get in them very quickly. Not only that, they should do like they used to and chain them together. That way if someone did stop to pick one up, they'd have to pick them all up and that would take longer. DOC just isn't thinking.

Anonymous said...

It's AW's way to feed you a tidbit and if you want the entire meal, you have to buy his paper. Then, you are not sure you have eaten from the entire buffet.

ROSE said...

That's all well & witty, but it still doesn't answer the question. Is the dude still wandering around or did they catch him?

Anonymous said...

According to AW's website, the guy is still on the lam.

Anonymous said...

According to the news he is still out wandering around somewhere, so much for the work release program.
Someone mentioned why not pull over pick them up and drive on!! That happened in Nicholas county back in the early part of summer this year and when they caught the guy who only had a few weeks left to serve out his time got another automatic one year added to his jail time.

Don't think I would want to run off myself if it were me in orange knowing an extra year was the pay of the day once you run.

Oh, wait. Never mind. We're Americans. We don't do that kind of thing, do we?

Closer to home ... Evel Knievel died yesterday. Somewhere in South Carolina, a former Clay County boy is a sad, sad man ....

Read about all the whop to do about the two trees in front of the old courthouse and how we should call the courthouse to keep them. Here's a thought for you.

Once upon a time a long time ago there was some young men who began there lives when they received a letter that read something like this.

Greetings from the President of the United States of America YOU have been selected to serve in the United States Military Service to fight for the Freedom Of These United States of America and the Freedoms Therein. You will be given a few weeks of training and then sent overseas somewhere where there will be two pine trees to represent you and your buddies who will loose their lives, legs, arms, eyes, stomachs, minds, be deprived of medical care, be deprived of assistance for daily living, be deprived of pain medicines and other aspects normally enjoyed by others who have not had to fight for this country. In some instances you will even be deprived of a place to live and a bed to sleep in.

All the above is true right here in Clay County and instead of haveing a memorial dedicated to the Veterans who gave there all placed in an area where all can visit safely in the center of town and because there is two trees not even native trees, once again we are ready to (KICK) our veterans.

I know not one veteran that was given the opportunity to fight for this country or to save two trees. They were all told to fight to the death to defend this country and its freedom and alot have done that and noone even knows who they are.

ROSE said...

C'mon up, man! We made snow ice cream & had 6 bowls - that counts as a 6-course breakfast, right?? BAHAHAHAHA LOL

I think the trees should stay. Surely to goodness there's a COMPROMISE in there somewhere.

Anonymous said...

Sexual harassment at work-is it a problem for the self-employed?

ROSE said...

If it is, you could just fire yourself then be your own legal representation to ... um ... get you off. teeheehee

Is there a valid reason for the school system to not make closing/delay announcements until 11 p.m.? Does somebody really think at 9 p.m. that some miraculous warm up is going to take place? Or maybe DOH will perform some sort of voodoo that'll magically clear the roads? Good grief.

Speaking of DOH, I just saw Scott Samples on Channel 3! Proof that he was out in the midst of it all, hard at work last night. Better him than me ....

Anonymous said...

I for one would like to see the memorial in place with or without the trees. Why not compromise and cut off the roots on the sides of the trees near the memorial site and the limbs on the one side of each tree that way if they fall the would surely go the other direction instead of falling on the statues or wall or whatever they have in mind to put there. If the trees die then remove them. There now the problem is solved lets get to work on the project now. git r done

Anonymous said...

Ms Rose surely you don't think anyone in Clayberry is smart enuff to call school off at a decent hour or even delay it for that matter. Like yesterday instead of having school on time they waited two hours and we all know the mess got worse by 9 a.m. Most of the snow fell between 7 and 9 and the kids would have been in school safe and sound. You know what they say let er snow then.

Anonymous said...

Larry the Berry knows best. And Clark and Samples are always on top of every thing. Notice how they plowed and salted after most folks had went to work. P*ss poor planning. Each and every person in the county who gives a d*m orta go up to the state road garage and tell em so.

Clark and the Samples needs to be ran out of the county period. Just some roads get worked and the others they could care less about.

Anonymous said...

Hey, I know why they don't call school off in the night during a storm. They don't want you to sleep in and enjoy your morning.

ROSE said...

Well, here's a no-brainer for them. The older you get, the more sleep you need (want). If they'd make the stupid call by 9 p.m., we could all go to bed earlier AND sleep in.

Winter's not even officially here yet & I've already had enough.

Update on the wreck.

Anonymous said...

FROM WSAZ:

Police say a woman was killed and three others hurt after a head-on collision near the Kanawha-Clay County line.

It happened at about 7am Friday on Route 4 about a mile from the Clay County line.

According to Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies, a witness said that a south bound pick-up was attempting to pass a vehicle when it struck a mini-van traveling north.

Deputies say Mary Villa, 25 of Procious, was driving the mini-van; and Chris Taylor, 21 of Bickmore, was driving the pickup truck.

Villa was flown to CAMC General in Charleston where she later died. Deputies say Taylor and his two passengers were taken to the hospital. No word yet on their injuries.
