My ol' friend, Chuck Blankenship, was born 50 years ago today. Fifty years. That's mind boggling to me. Both that he'd have been the big 5-0 and that he's not here to boost a Bud and celebrate with us.
I used to think it was silly when people said things like, "If he'd have lived, he'd be 102 today" or whatever. But then I grew up & learned to appreciate the time we have, the people we have to share it with and the harsh reality of having it cut short long before we're ready.
So ... as we welcome in a new month & ride the roller coaster of life, let's all take a minute to boost a Bud (OK, so I'm boosting coffee, since it's 6 a.m.) & toast this life we're still blessed enough to find ourselves actively participating in.
Live a little. Dangle a preposition or two. Go commando!

Here's a thing about the war in Iraq. As long as they continue to fight us, we'll continue to fund their schools, educate their children, build up their infrastructure, rebuild their homes, feed their people & pour money into their economy.
I have no idea how big Iraq is or how much ground the actual "battlefield" covers, but we're everywhere there, building & protecting & educating & feeding. If they get all peaceful & we pack up & leave, they're on their own again. Iraqis are a lot of things, but stupid obviously isn't one of them.
Oh. Wait. I neglected to mention the weapons arsenal we're building for them, the ammo we're giving them & the training we're providing for them to become better at using it all to their own advantage.

Burleys shirt this week at go mart looked like a brownsfield project. There were substances on there that were toxic -- smelled to.

People who join hunt clubs will tell you it's because they don't have any place else to hunt. What they really mean is that they're sissy boys who don't have what it takes to actually go out & hunt. They need somebody to make it all easy for them & plant something for them to easily kill so they can feel all manly & such.
Now, I know a lot of people who go on hunts in other states & even other countries. They'll tell you it's not easy. They'll tell you it's *hunting*. They'll tell you it's loads of fun.
The guy who owns the land they're hunting & the club that arranges it all will tell you it's a million dollar market & there's a sucker with a dollar born every minute.
What I don't understand is why hunt clubs can't be for hunting during regular hunting seasons & hiking & whatnot the rest of the time.
If anybody wants to hike my woods, they're more than welcome. But let me know first or we'll shoot you for trespassing (if the dogs don't eat you first). teeheehee
you're right in some ways IMO. But the hunting clubs want paid if youtrespass on their property, paid that is prior to your trespass by paying a fee. Ms Lupardus seems to be learning the hard way that the upper class in Clay co. are not to be trusted. Her parking lot and club house are now white elephants. Roger Nutter ows the tram. Bill BRIGHT OWNS THE RAILROAD. THE HUNTING CLUB LEASES THE ADJACENT PROPERTY. THE TOURISTS WILL BE CONFINED TO THE RAILROAD AND SUBJECT TO WHAT EVER PRICE THEY DECIDE TO CHARGE.
left out some details, the Big Knob hunting club leases 11,000 acres from swandale park to wider according to their ads in the Clayberry web page. Just to add fire to this furnace, The hunting clubs in clay county own over 50% of the land in clay county. The hunting clubs are the results of coal barrons like bill bright and consol that own land and have it listed at the Assessors office as managed timberlands so they do not have to pay but about 1/3 of the taxes that everyone else does then they lease it to individuals for hunting clubs to pay these taxes and the hunting clubs keep the insurance on the property. I believe once it is leased to a hunting club it is rental property or business property and shoulc be taxed as that. This is the facts talked to Arlene Tucker in assessors office for facts. There has been 3 bills in the house of delegates to have this changed to when it is leased it cannot be considered managed timberlands but it has failed because many of our delegates and senators are members or owners of hunting clubs.

Actually, I've been the victim of a curse before. A universal, age-old curse that requires no herbs, no chanting, no full moon. It can't be reversed, undone or altered in any way. Sometimes, it may even be uttered in haste by someone who has no idea what the far-reaching consequences might be.
You know what I'm talking about. You may even be a victim yourself. Or maybe you married a victim & had no idea what you were getting into. Millions of us are walking around with this curse over our heads, completely unaware of it until the day it smacks us right between the eyes & irrevocably changes our lives forever.
I was cursed at a very young age & despite knowing full well what I was dooming my children to, I have already passed the curse on to them. Truth be known, I curse them gleefully and often.
It's simply a matter of saying, (with deep feeling), ... "I hope someday, you have a kid just like YOU!"

i have just now got around to reading the comments about hunting clubs on this site and i think some of you have a miss guided opinion. i am president of the big knob hunting club and since we have taken over our lease we have almost stoped illeagal hunting on our lease, we are working with other clubs in the area on game managment practices and are open for any law enforcement or individual help.we welcome any local members we can get. but thanks to liberal law suites this is the way it has to be now.as far as paying to suport the county, our club has a large number of out of area members that spend a considerable amount of money in the county each year. we are the ones that mowed and cleaned swandale park this summer. if local people do not take and keep these leases then someone eles will, probably some out of stater that would not blink at leaseing these properties and telling locals to stay off. i do not like paying to hunt anymore than anyone else but times are changeing, thats the way other states have been for years. if anyone has any comments, questions or ideas feel free to contact me about it but not as anonymous. 587-2924 mitch
