& FUN WAS HAD BY ALL ...

Did you go to the Apple Festival? Always a great opportunity to see folks you haven't seen in a year!

For those of us who choose to live here in Clay (as opposed to those who can't seem to find a way out), it's also a measure of our roots. We started out as cranky little kids, then became the crazy, giggling, oh-so-cool teenagers ... now we bring out chairs to sit in front of the courthouse & listen to music that hasn't been popular for 25 years & talk about how good the band is, while watching the cycle continue. What's funny is that the oh-so-cool teenagers today have no idea how much cooler the generations before them were. ;)

As usual, we went to the parade (the middle school band was GREAT! [yes, I'm biased!]), then came home for a regroup before going back for hours on end.

This year, 2 distinctly memorable things happened. First, I saw a nice looking young man with a beard. In & of itself, that's not a big deal. The last time I saw this guy, though, he was participating in a ... uh ... hmm ... let's call it what it was - a fart contest - in my son's room & he was just a squeaky voiced, smooth-faced kid. Now he's a handsome young man with a beard. Where'd the time go??

The second distinctly memorable thing that happened was while I was looking at the National Guard jeeps. This guy walking down the sidewalk stopped dead in front of me, looked at me for a minute, then said, "Oh. You're already married. You are exceptionally good looking." LOLOL Hey! It really happened!!

Shame on all those people who couldn't be bothered to throw their trash where it belongs instead of on the street. Lazy whelps.

Kudos to those who kept the courthouse bathrooms clean & the toilet paper supply steady (& the guy who sent the men & boys out to the Porta-Potty so the women & little girls could use the men's room).

HUGE kudos to all who help make it all happen - another great Apple Festival!!

I also would like to thank the guy that stood outside of the men's room and let the women use the men's bathroom. I really appreciate him.

At one point Walter got on his case for him doing that. Walter needs to find a little respect for women.

Here lies Mary Lee
Dead at the age of 103
For 15 years she kept her virginity
Not a bad record for this vicinity.

ROSE said...

LOL Uh ... yep!

OJ's back in jail! Reckon he'll go down this time? Isn't any money he has supposed to go to the Gold family? Too bad (for him) Johnny Cochran's gone.

Anonymous said...

Maybe he could get Wayne King, he has a good history of getting crooks off.

Anonymous said...

Wayne King's about as good as Johnny Cochran. After Johnny died.

Anonymous said...

Have ya'll heard about the camera over the mens bath room at the courthouse? Maybe the guy wasn't as nice as you thought.
Seems there was some fine and not so fine sights seen. Hindsight I bet!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I wasnt cool as a teenager.
I tried to be, but if ya gotta try, you arent.

Anonymous said...

As long as the other uncool people think you are cool, you are cool.

Anonymous said...

After reading the news this morning, I have two things to say:
One, you have to admit, OJ did take a nice mug shot!
Two, only an a**hole like GW Bush would jepordize health care for low income children

ROSE said...

OJ always takes a nice mug shot.

I'd never begrudge a sick child medical attention, but it's about d*mn time somebody did something about the insurance/health care fiasco in this country.

Whaddaya reckon happened to the "Rodham" in Hillary Clinton?

Anonymous said...

So "cool" is a relative thing?

Anonymous said...

People were mistakenly thinking she was related to Dennis Rodman.

Anonymous said...

she does kinda look like him

Anonymous said...

Now why do you wanna go and insult Dennis like that?

SirHeny60

ROSE said...

LOL Dennis definitely has way more fashion sense.

& a lot more fans.

Anonymous said...

And blond hair and piercings. And he slept with Madonna.

time for some serious thought.. Hilary wants compulsory medical insurance. i assume this means you gotta pay whether you have any money or not. hILARY SAYS NO MONEY , GIVE YOU TAX CREDITS. WELFARERS NO PAY TAX. SO WHO FOOTS THE BILL?
think; another layer of bureaucracy to suck money from the GOV.
think; Hilary loves illegal immigrants. says give them free welfare, free medicaid free everything hooray!!! but only to illegal immigrants.
Compulsory pay iffen you're a citizen. yeeehaw???????????
Vote for Hilary the hilarious.

ROSE said...

I'm sure Hillary or Bill one has slept with Madonna ...

Here's a simple thought. Everybody who pays taxes gets a free medical card that extends to his/her dependents.

Everybody else should drink more orange juice.

SEATTLE, Washington (AP) -- -- Officially, it's the South Lake Union Streetcar. But in the neighborhood where the new line runs, it's called the South Lake Union Trolley -- or, the SLUT.

At Kapow! Coffee, a shop in the old Cascade neighborhood, 100 T-shirts bearing the words "Ride the SLUT" sold out in days, and another 100 are on order.

This is from FoxNews site.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Monday proposed a health care plan that would require every American to have health insurance just like states require drivers to buy auto insurance.

Notice the key word , REQUIRE, just like states require drivers to buy auto insurance?

I have a car, I am required to buy for insurance to drive it.

I am alive, I am required to buy insurance for myself so I can breathe.

I have finally lived long enough in this country to see a tax on breathing.

(The following is also from FoxNews site)
The so-called "individual mandate" — the centerpiece of her "American Health Choices Plan" — would cost the federal government $110 billion a year and would help provide coverage for 47 million Americans without health care coverage.

Help provide coverage?? What does that mean?? Help provide??

I'm tired, I'm confused, and it ain't no wonder Bill has that dumb sounding laugh.

SirHenry60

ROSE said...

LOL Bill's laugh is the least of his problems.

I'm sure Hillary's new "plan" would provide bizzillions of jobs for the currently unemployed. Man, that's a whole new realm of state workers.

Remember, she thinks the Village People should raise the children. Somebody needs to tell her about Blood, Sweat & Tears.

I'm waiting for a candidate to come out & say, "You know that huge, fat lady you saw at the health department? The one who walked in with a 20 ounce Pepsi & a bag of chips & showed her welfare-issued medical card? The one who then proceeded to tell everybody about her high cholesterol & her high blood pressure & her diabetes? The one who could barely draw a decent breath, then proceeded to tell everybody she was about to have a nicotine fit, so she went outside to suck on a Marlboro? THAT'S the health care problem I'm going to fix." That's the candidate I'll consider voting for.

Help provide coverage?? What does that mean?? Help provide??

Have you ever looked at your electric bill? Has the option to provide coverage for your LAZY WELFARE neighbors,so figure it out.
As for myself I received a questionnaire from the Hillary wanting to know if I would vote for her for President and for the reply I stated "NOT EVEN IF THEY HOLD A GUN TO MY HEAD. I remember the blood trail they left from Arkanasa to the white house, White Water and "THEIR FRIENDS" committing suicide in rank hotels.

NO THANK YOU and as for the RODHAM in the name>>>>LIKE HER IT RODDEM OFF.

HArd to imagine, but we will probably eventually be wishing for George Bush again.

Hillary Clinton came to town,
ridin’ on an ass.
Barack Obama close behind,
tryin’ hard to pass.

Giuliani leads the way,
perched in a fire engine
Mr. Edwards not far off,
fluffin’ his hair & cringin’.

Gravel, Brownback & Hunter,
Richardson & Paul.
Dodd, Kucinich, Tancredo ...
we never heard of y’all.

Romney stops for photo ops,
while Biden works the crowd.
Thompson’s hopin’ for an Emmy
& a co-star well-endowed.

John McCain pullin' up the rear,
in the wake of Huckabee
rantin’ & ravin’ & wavin’ his gun,
“I’ll kill them SOBs!”

oh, wait, the ass, it's raised it’s tail,
& left a steamin' pile.
they’re slippin’ & slidin’ in all that sh*t
& will be for awhile.

Anonymous said...

Oh, Mother Goose, that was sooooo good!

Anonymous said...

That whole new realm of state workers won't be a problem for West Virginia what with Joe out sourcing all the work that the state workers used to do.

Anonymous said...

State workers did work? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Anonymous said...

Probably about as much work as they get paid to do.

ROSE said...

If people got paid for the work they do, management would be making minimum wage & worker bees would be rich.

Anonymous said...

You have to start at the bottom to get to the top.

Anonymous said...

Yes, but most people who start at the bottom stay at the bottom.

ROSE said...

I could be wrong, but in my experience, the people at the top are usually the ones with the most experience & education.

Of course, sometimes it helps if your momma/daddy/uncle/cousin/neighbor is the one on top - then even the bottom feeders can sometimes find their way to the middle.

Anonymous said...

It's better to start in the middle, which is easy enough to do, and go to the top.

ROSE said...

It's even easier to start at the bottom, dig in your heels & stay there until everybody else retires.

Anonymous said...

Only if you're young enough to have that kind of time.
Some of us are old crows rather than spring chickens.

ROSE said...

Well, you know what they say about old crows ... OK, so I don't, either, but I'm sure it has something to do with experience & surely that's gotta be good for something.

Just sleep your way to the top like everybody else does. Then retire early & marry rich.

Anonymous said...

If there was actual sleeping involved I'd do that in a minute. I could use a good nap! >: D

Anonymous said...

From AW's site: "You remember Joe Crow and are sad when his name is mentioned". I remember most of that stuff, but can anyone tell me who Joe Crow is??? Should I have remembered that? Is that a real person? I don't remember ever hearing the name of Crow in Clay County.

Anonymous said...

His name was Joey Smith and he was the local town drunk/flunky. He could be found, at any given time, snoozing on the street, the alleys or in the halls of Murphy's apartments. The story is that some of the local boys beat him to death.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for the info. That is a horrible story. You would think the local boys would have had better sense. Do you know about what time frame this happened?

Anonymous said...

my two cents; used to be a Jim Crow arund in WV. a lot of old bats still around. then we have hawkie down on the street. then we have other birds that windup in CRJ. seen a flock of eagles here one time. lit on the river bluff just below my house. i went to Clay, damned if them eagles didn't turn to buzzards whilst i was gone. Clay co. been full of old buzzards ever since.

anybody hear something about poopys son getting caught wiht a meth lab?

Anonymous said...

Does he go by the name Squirt?

ROSE said...

LOL How does one acquire "Poopy" as a nickname?? Or do I even want to know?

Almost a week into Fall & it's finally starting to feel like it!! It'll soon be time to start digging into beef stew & vegetable soup & chili & ...

The Gazette has the outcome of the McMurtry/Cottrill trial. That last paragraph-very interesting.
High spirited. Yeah.

ROSE said...

In case you don't have time to read the whole article, here's the statement Mr. McMurtry issued to the press:

“In their zeal to convict a television news anchor, prosecutors took at face value the word of a woman who pleaded guilty after being arrested for shooting a gun at a previous husband, and had a restraining order placed on her for hitting an 11-year-old child in the face. Nobody ever asked me for my side of the story. Because of her lies that night, I, and more importantly, my three children, have been put through months of undeserved ridicule and scorn. My children heard about this every day at school. Since the charges were filed, my wife threatened to date and bring men to my home and said there was nothing I could do about it. This has been two months of living hell for my kids and me.”

(Can't wait to see CB in POLYESTER!!!) BAHAHAHAHA LOL

Now that is Felicia that we all know. Where's her big mouth defender that was on here last time her name came up. Kind quiet now aren't ya!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Cottrell, 41, testified that the information she gave a 911 operator on the night of the incident is false. Later claims in a domestic violence protective order she filed against her husband and in statements she gave the police were also not true, she said.

filing false reports, slander, perjury, defamation of character ...

Anonymous said...

Rhinestones not so close together any more? Sounds like a whole lot a shakin going on.

Anonymous said...

I don't even know felicia but you people are picking on the wrong person. I guess no one cares that his first wife was mysteriously thrown or jumped from a building roof. Wonder why he didn't say he had bad luck with women. He still did the hitting with picture frames.

Anonymous said...

"Mysteriously" thrown or jumped???? An autopsy would show which it was. I'm sure one was done.

Anonymous said...

Nope! All depends on how high the building was and if she did'nt put up a fight. At least thats what they say on CSI.

Anonymous said...

Which we all know is complete fact.

ROSE said...

Acquitted means he didn't do it. Just like O.J.

Anonymous said...

Like someone typed in earlier "thats the Felicia we all know" also her name should have been target cause everyones had a shot at her. Don't be at all surprised if he finds her in bed with another man or half a dozen at once anything to contribute to the problem (marriage license) cause after the honeymoons over shes back to her tricks again.

only an a**hole like GW Bush would jepordize health care for low income children
Now since when is $80,000.00 a year considered low income as the end result would be up to and including that amount of income for the schips program.
Not to cause argumental issues but why not cover all born in the USA and no coverage for illegals period. After all we send enough money to other countries and nothing is kept here to protect our own people.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you! It's not to late to enter your name for election!
Depends on where you live though, whether $80K is a lot of money.
Of course here in WV it would be a great salary. In CA or NY for example, it doesn't amount to much.
But you're right, GW Bush as in a** hole.

Anonymous said...

I understood that Bush vetoed that insurance bill because it would cause people who have private insurance to qualify for government insurance which would take away from the low income. How is that being an a**hole?

Anonymous said...

It would be nice if insurance premiums were based on income. I pay just as much for private insurance to cover my kids as those who make 5 times more than I do. How is that fair?
Bush is an a** hole with or without the insurance issue.

ROSE said...

"How is that fair" ??? Do you honestly think that health care is based on your income? Do you think that when you walk into a doctor's office, he says, "Oh, you're poor. I'm going to give you poor care" or "Oh, you're rich, I'm going to take great care of you!" ?? That's idiotic. In fact, it's exactly the opposite. If your "insurance" is subsidized (i.e., a medical card), I'm already helping to pay your premiums IN ADDITION to my own & IN ADDITION to the cost of your actual medical procedures & medications. How is THAT fair?? Equal care should carry an equal premium, no matter how much money you're capable of making (or bilking).

We all pay the same amount of sales tax, the same amount of property tax, get the same standard deductions on our income taxes ... where's the fairness in insurance being so different?

Anonymous said...

go get 'em Rosa.

Anonymous said...

WASHINGTON — Congressional Democrats have chosen an unlikely source to pay for the bulk of their proposed $35 billion increase in children's health coverage: people with relatively little money and education.

The program expansion passed by the House and Senate last week would be financed with a 156 percent increase in the federal cigarette tax, taking it to $1 per pack from the current 39 cents. Low-income people smoke more heavily than do wealthier people in the United States, making cigarette taxes a regressive form of revenue.

Anonymous said...

Get a job with the state, you can still make less money than everyone, but you do get to pick your insurance coverage so you don't have to pay as much >; D

CB

Anonymous said...

Did somebody say GET A JOB????

I thought cussing wasn't allowed on here.

Anonymous said...

Only one thing you didn't mention Ms Rose was that if you are bilking the system at the end of the year and come time to file taxes the underprivileged people get to file a low income tax claim and get back thousands and haven't paid a dime in. Thats the pisser for laying around and having kids while the working people pay threw the nose and are taxed to death.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, forgot where I was. I'll go wash my mouth out with soap. And then wash that taste out with a beer! LOLOLOLOL

CB

ROSE said...

Isn't it ironic that beer can wash out so many foul tastes, but just 1 beer too many can lead to a taste that not even Ajax can wash away. LOL

You're absolutely right, Anon! I didn't mention the deadbeat refund getters because lawsy, lawsy, you don't want to get me started! LOL
