On behalf of the kids at H.E. White Elementary (& I think I can speak for the kids of Big Otter, Clay & Lizemore, too) I just want to take a moment to say - with utmost sincerity - THANK YOU to all involved with the 3rd Annual Clay County Outback Olympics.
Especially Bunny Taylor, Leslie Pinkerton, Mike Mullins, Kenneth Tanner, all the teachers & parents who helped make it happen and all who volunteered (behind the scenes and on the front-lines!). I don't know the final count on participants, but every kid there seemed to be having a GREAT time! Our kids here in Clay County have very few opportunities & these past 3 days have been one of the highlights of their young lives. KUDOS to all who made it a success. :-)

At last- A kind word for the school system.
Only because she was part of it for awhile. It's called sucking up.
LOL She is not, was not, has never been "part of it" - I'm a member of Americorps & my site is H.E. White Elementary. I'm in no way attached to the school system. Hence, there's no reason for me to "suck up" to it.
My children have been in school for the past 12 years. For the first time in all those years, I truly believe the superintendent & his entire staff gives a rip about the kids of Clay. That's not to say any of the former staff members didn't care, just that I've witnessed far more proof of it with this administration.
So. Call it "sucking up" if you must, but in reality, I'm just a parent - who has a unique perspective - offering a heartfelt THANK YOU for a JOB WELL DONE!

On the other hand, to spend $18.3 million on 2200 students and receive dismal performance in nearly every area.... there's a reason why we stay at the bottom.
There absolutely IS a reason we stay at the bottom - in fact, there must be many reasons, because we continue to stay at the bottom - & yet, no matter what "they" do, we're still at the bottom.
Until the old, crusty, out-of-touch, never-had-a-kid-in-public-school, never-wanted-for-anything-in-my-life, have-no-idea-what-I'm-doing" people in Washington realize that they're all of the above, our kids will (dare I say it?) continue to be at the bottom.
Until we let/make teachers teach & let/make kids learn in a manner that works for all involved, we'll always get an Honorable Mention; never get the Gold.
Subject: Entitlement
I like the way this guy verbalized his anger to this issue, and he is right on. We have paid this all our working lives with the understanding that it would take care of us. What is happening is no different that paying for insurance that will fully cover the loss of your home, and after that loss, the insurance company saying that you will only get 1/3 rd for we are going broke.
Entitlement my a$$ , I paid cash for my social security insurance!!!! Just because they borrowed the money , doesn't make my benefits some kind of charity or handout !! Congressional ben e fits , aka. free healthcare , outrageous retirement packages , 67 paid holidays , three weeks paid vacation , unlimited paid sick days , now that's welfare , and they have the nerve to call my retirement entitlements!!!!!!.....scroll down...............

Tuesday's Daily Bulletin paper, ran two articles on the front page side by side :
1- Calif 's 20 Billion Dollar Budget Deficit
2- The Calif Supreme Court ruling that ILLEGALS can attend college and get benefits. Why don't they just deport them when they arrive to register?
3- Last year they ran an article on the yearly costs to Calif ornia
Taxpayers from llegals using Hospital Emergency Rooms for their general health care - At just one hospital the cost to tax payers totaled over 25 million a year
Someone please tell me what the HELL's wrong with all the people that run this country!!!!!!
We're "broke" & can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, Homeless etc.,???????????
In the last months we have provided aid to Haiti , Chile , and Turkey . And now Pakistan .......home of bin laden. Literally, BILLIONS of DOLLARS!!! Our retired seniors living on a 'fixed income' receive no and nor do they get any breaks while our government and religious organizations pour Hundreds of Billions of $$$'s and Tons of Food to Foreign Countries!
They call Social Security and Medicare an entitlement even though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives and now when it ’ s time for us to collect, the government is running out of money. Why did the government borrow from it in the first place?
We have hundreds of adoptable children who are shoved aside to make room for the adoption of foreign orphans.
AMERICA: a country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed hungry, elderly going without
'needed' meds, and mentally ill without treatment-etc, etc.
YET.... They have a 'Benefit' for the people of Haiti on 12 TV stations, ships and planes lining up with food, water, tents clothes, bedding, doctors and medical supplies.
Imagine if the *GOVERNMENT* gave 'US' the same support they give to other countries.
Sad to say the least!!!!

If you go along with the creation story of Adam and Eve, then it is obvious that we are all a product of incest. And it gets worse with every birth. Be compassionate with your neighbors. We don't have a chance than to act flaky. We are all related by birth to Adam and Eve.
