Thanks, Southern Boy! A lot of the people who spew such nastiness about me don't me. Ignorance is a wonderful thing, ya know.

Outsider, in a word, "YES" - just because I felt like it. "The reason you started this is so you can pick and chose what people can say." ???? Uh ... sure. Have you read this stuff?

I'm just dumbfounded by this whole experience. I didn't exactly send out engraved invitations. Now I find myself being reamed by perfect strangers (I have to assume) for moderating MY website MY way. What a world we live in!

Nice board Rose. Sort of makes me want to never live in a small town ever again. Looks like your getting a workout as board moderator though eh?

I'll try to form a thought and maybe even an opinion later on over a cold n foamy one. Keep up the good work...

You people are idiots. Why all the fighting over Pumpkin Ridge? What the heck kind of name is that, anyway? Can you get there from Squarsh Holler? No wonder you can't get water. You can't half talk, so probably nobody knows what you're asking for.

Anonymous said...

Does it concern you that the Mad Slapper is inviting people to BRING IT ON? I hope your "over zealous" sheriff don't have plans for whenever that next meeting is. Does Clay have a paddy wagon? JK

ROSE said...

ONE MORE TIME - this isn't the dedicated CRPSD site. Surely there's more to talk about than that, isn't there?? IT'S SNOWING, for pete's sake!

Thanks, Naval Lint! (love the name!) I think it'd be a hoot if you got yourself all likkered up on cold n foamy ones then came back. Just don't sound like a bigot & don't offer your opinions on my sex life - I reject those, ya know.

Squarsh Holler?? I don't think that's anywhere near Pumpkin Ridge. Probably closer to Booger Hole.

CBM?

Who is that? You speak strongly but don't have courage to leave your name? When talking of "Grown Woman" why not wait until you are one and can leave your name when speaking.

This county was screwed up before I came along and will be after I am gone.

Pat…ricia???

It doesn’t appear as though your grammar has been perfected either. Please note that the correct name of the ridge is “Punkin”. If you are interested in more information about it, you can visit the Welcome to Clayberry link posted on this home page. That site holds plenty of community information. Incidentally, I read in an earlier posting that the only reason someone would call names is because they don’t have anything intelligent to say. I find that to be true in your case.

Ha Rose! How ya doing on this bright and sunny day? Ha, I saw something this morning out in the front yard, A big red fox. Now that's something you don't see in the big city. What a great place we have to live here in clay co. Kiding obout the sunshine, I wish it was. D.J.E.

Hey, DJE! We did have some sunshine this morning, but it sure didn't last long! Ya know, everybody always talks about how they're seeing red foxes & coyotes & bears & all sorts of wildlife & I live here in the woods & see nothing! Maybe the baboons have scared everything else away??

One thing I'm never going to be is a 'grown woman'. I left my initials, same as you.

Did somebody say likker?
CBM

Anonymous said...

Now that I've had a bit of time to relax and get likkerdup...
I used to live just a hop skip and a jump from Pumpkin ridge. (Everyone I ever heard calls it Punkin ridge) sort of like hurricane. Everyone says hurrican..

Spelling, gramatics, and pronunciation aside.

For all those of you who want water, let me tell you my experiences with the water system. The water we got was a bit closer to town than the ridge (not much a few miles at most)so anything you'd be getting would be at least the quality of what we got.
Pretty often the water smelled very bad, I like to shower at least daily if not twice if Im working hard. When I would kick on the shower first you get that wonderful foul smell and the water is a nice amber color, if you leave it on for a bit it would usually clear up some, but I ran the shower every day sometimes several so its not like it was rust in the lines.

Thats a bit of what your in for if you ever do get water up there.

Who knows maybe the water quality has changed since I lived there.

Heres something you can try at home.
Its getting cold out so lots of people are using stoves and fireplaces. Well everyone knows that dries the air. So to keep a bit of moisture in the house we often put a large pot of water on the stove and steamed it on low. Even when we had clear water from the tap if you slowly boil or steam off your water after an hour or two you'll find a nice tan colored sludge at the bottom of your pan.

But it could be prefectly healthy. We never tested the sludge to see what it was composed of.

So my point is.. if you, by some miracle, ever do get water up there I dont want to hear any complaining about its quality.

O.K. so that was my thought, now heres my opinion.

I'll bet for $50,000 you hire a non local company to come and locate a few decent sources of water and then you could drill and throw down a few pumps and pump into a main storage tank the residents of pumpkin ridge could use.

I guess the question then would be how much water would be used by the residents versus how much useable water is in the area and the cost for the set up. How much will the residents kick in. Whos willing to have a well on their property. etc... etc...
Theres lots of variables.

You'd have a better quality of water .. . but it would cost more initially.

How bad do you want water?
Or do you just want that 50 bucks a month bill and a free hook up? And your pissed because they wont hook you up?

O.K. so my opinion is you'd probably be better off with well water, and your own filtration system. Your probably more likely to get subsidized if you do it collectivley rather than as individuals. And certainly the water quality wouldn't be any worse.

So theres my 2 cents on that issue.. Im sure theres plenty Im unaware of as I dont even live there anymore, and I didnt bring up permits and the legalities of my suggestion.
but it is a thought (although random), and thats what messageboards are for right?

Anyhow doesnt seem things have changed much.. And I hope everyone is well..

If only one way, By showing peace between ourselves. D.J.E.

Well. Hmm. N.L., are you allergic to likker? Your tongue seems a bit swollen. Not that that makes you a bad person, you understand.

Here’s a thought to ponder: Last week, there was this blurb on the news about how St. Albans wants to tie their sewage system into their water system. The idea is that the sewer water would then be filtered into oblivion, chemicalled all up, then recycled into drinking water. People were OUTRAGED!

I’m thinking, “Hmm.” Most water systems I know of pump their raw water from the river. In Clay, that’d be the Mighty Elk. The same river where raw sewage, trash, meth lab run-off & who knows what else, runs freely. It’s then filtered into oblivion, chemicalled all up, then recycled into drinking water.

I’m sure there was some point I was trying to make here, but frankly, I don’t want to think about it anymore.

ROSE said...

Hey, 3fingers! I think that's a fantastic idea! If every person in the world just stopped for 5 full minutes & did absolutely nothing at exactly the same time, there'd be world peace for 5 full minutes! It'd be a start.

Wes - you & all your comrades will be on our minds tomorrow, as always. We wish you all the safest of journeys & pray/hope/wish/cast a spell for your safe & speedy return.

If you know of a family who has a soldier who won't be sitting down to dinner with them tomorrow, let them know you appreciate their sacrifice. Doesn't matter if you agree with why their soldier isn't there or not, what matters is where YOU are in their absence.

This site is priceless. As a former Clay Countian (Spelling??), still a resident in absentia, I appreciate the frank, honest comments of real people. Since I can't sit/stand around and enjoy the daily gossip to find out what's going on, this is the next best thing.

I find AW's website both humorous and interesting. Poking fun at the locals is definitely one of his greater strengths. His opinions can be a bit sharp, thus he becomes a target of wrath from the offended. He appears to be a "Thorn in the side" of some of those who lead, guide, and direct the political and business climate of the town and county. BRAVO! It's about time someone (either with backbone or totally clueless, doesn't matter which) questioned some of the business practices and questionable dealings that have become passé.

While scrolling through the comments you’ve posted, I see a variety of opinions that inspire both rebuttal and agreement. Most important is the opportunity (and obvious desire) to communicate. The cloak of anonymity is a powerful tool in unleashing opinions without fear of ridicule or retaliation. Thanks for providing a forum for community issues, opinions, and plain old thoughts. It’s good to be able to tap into the “goings-on” from far away while engaged in the business of protecting the freedom we cherish dearly.

P in the Gulf (teeheehee)- Thanks so much for your articulation! You, too, take care of yourself. Y'all watch out for one another.

As we all go through our day-to-day lives, dealing with our little "trials and tributlations," it's so easy to not think about what's going on "over there." I just saw a Thanksgiving dinner being served to troops & SLAM! it brings it all home. I don't think any amount of "THANK YOU" is enough, but THANK YOU! This was in an email my mom sent me:

You might be a Redneck....

We have enjoyed the redneck jokes for years. It's time to take a reflective look at the core beliefs of a culture that values home, family, country and God. If I had to stand before a dozen terrorists who threaten my life, I'd choose a half dozen or so rednecks to back me up. Tire irons, squirrel guns and grit -- that's what rednecks are made of. I hope I am one of those. If you feel the same, pass this on to your redneck friends. Ya'll know who ya' are...

You might be a redneck if: It never occurred to you to be offended by the phrase, "One nation, under God."

You might be a redneck if: You've never protested about seeing the 10 Commandments posted in public places.

You might be a redneck if: You still say "Christmas" instead of "Winter Festival."

You might be a redneck if: You bow your head when someone prays.

You might be a redneck if: You stand and place your hand over your heart when they play the National Anthem.

You might be a redneck if: You treat Viet Nam vets with great respect, and always have.

You might be a redneck if: You've never burned an American flag.

You might be a redneck if: You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening.

You might be a redneck if: You respect your elders and expect your kids to do the same.

You might be a redneck if: You'd give your last dollar to a friend.

GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.!

so MP, you say you are no longer ordered to pay anything back now because your case was dropped? Is that the reason you havent paid back the money owed to the PSD? I thought on several occasions you stated that you were going to pay that back and now you say you arent going to??? Are you going to even pay your court cost? And you state that you are going to put in your own water lines on Pumpkin, how are you going to get water from the plant if the health department shuts you down for illegal lines? You do know that those lines must be tested and passed by the state health department or are you trying to make everyone out there sick?? And as for the anger management classes, I think you need more than that. As for the Commission position, even if Sams isnt re-elected, Im sure you wont be. You have made a mockery of yourself in this county and if you think you can run a county after you have done such a wonderful job as a board member, you are sadly in your own little world.

It needs to be made clear that not ALL charges were dropped against CCBE (Clay County's Biggest Embarrassment). She is a convicted, guilty batterer. The anger management class was a sentence from that charge. It would appear that CCBE has not matriculated into any such class as there is not one shread of evidence of any behavorial changes. Whether there will ever be changes is questionable since it is impossible to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Likewise, there is no indication that such classes will cause one to meet their financial obligations nor to elevate their honesty, integrity, class or intelligence levels. The
only class that is being displayed by CCBE is LOW class and there is plenty of that.

Lets talk water. There are lots of complaints on stinky water. Either too much or not enough chemicals. That's going to be with us as long as we stretch water lines for miles.
Chlorine leaches out the farther thw water moves down the line. TO compensate, operators dose up the water at the plant in an attempt to keep some chlorine 15 miles away. The result is that bleach smell for some close by the plant with those on the other end STILL getting under treated water.
And Oh Yes, chlorine can be lethal as well as lack of it. Our Clay County water may be good for gardens or washing the dog, but little else!

I would like to clear something up about debt owed. Trying to have your debt satisfied illegally by means unacceptable by state law, can in no way equal having tried 2 times to make payment. Debts owed are taken in the form of cash in hand, money order, personal check and certified check in most businesses.

What a day for shopping today. I was only going out for a few things and ended up with a truck load. Add to that I found some gifts that I will have to go back and get and its going to be a good year for the stores if you ask me.

Im not saying Im for or against anyone or anything. But MP has said already that she tried to pay back CRPSD and they refused to take her check. Now if somebody gives a check over for payment in full and it is refused what should a person do? Also I didnt see no other CRPSG board members at the pumpkin ridge meeting at lease she is trying to help the residents there. RB

ROSE said...

First & foremost, I tried posting some comments earlier & I don't know what happened, but they're not here. If one of them was yours, please resend it! Sorry!

RB - I can't speak for all the board members, but I personally didn't attend the Pumpkin Ridge Community meeting because I'm not a resident of Pumpkin Ridge.

As a board member, there are things we can do that are ethical & things we can do that aren't. "Ethical" is apparently a relative term here in Clay & is open to translation. My personal translation is that my presence there could feasibly have been misconstrued as "CRPSD representation" & since it wasn't a CRPSD meeting, none of the board members who aren't residents had any business being there.

Conversely, nothing that was discussed and/or decided at that private meeting should in any way be taken as a discussion had and/or decision made on behalf of CRPSD.

To my knowledge, no check was ever presented. I am not aware of any actual checks being refused, merely discussions of payment plans, etc.

Chris - Don't worry about it! You can be anybody you want to be here!

DJE - you're a hoot!!

Ah, Sheriff Holcomb. I distinctly remember sitting in Gino's during the campaign & him making promises that if we'd vote for him, he'd do everything he possibly could to clean up Clay County. I declare, a politician who's doing exactly what he promised!! The novelty! What a concept! He's doing an excellent job & if I could vote for him twice next election, I would!

Keep those cards & letters coming!

First off the Pumkineers need to get a life. If they want water they need to go ahead and put it in. Your chance is comming up next year when [NAME REMOVED] runs for County Commission of course she will want to pay her court ordered payment and court cost that she owes because she wouldn't want to be know as a crook or anything. Her anger management classes that she taking from seeing a shrink will go a long ways in her campaign for Commission. What a county! George

Oh, well, probably doesn't have time, but am sure someone will tell him about it. Sure hope so. Seems he's getting a lot of pats on the back for a job well done. And, in my opinion, deserves every single pat.

If she knows she was overpaid and does not pay it back that is THEFT. If nobody has noticed she has a mental disorder that she cannot drive or go anyplace alone. She either has hubby or auntie with her. No we cannot explain to her that the citizens of Clay County think she is a thief and an idiot but the loss of the 500,000 grant in Charleston should tell her something. When she states that several people on "PUNKIN RIDGE" work for the water company she is referring to COUSINS that SHE HIRED. Please do not pleasure her with anymore comments because that is what she thrives on. In school it was disruption and fighting, when she was older it was domestic violence and making her husband not pay his child support, and with the help of [NAME REMOVED] and [NAME REMOVED] who put her on the PSD Board she now can draw attention to herself by being a pain in everyone's ARSSSSS.

Recently in my email I recieved a link to this blog. After reading all of the posts and shaking my head at some of the things I read, I decided to write my own opinion. My purpose for doing so is not to cut anyone down or to preach. My purpose is to try to make people take a step back and think about the truly important things...even if it's only for a second. Having lived in Clay County all of my life (almost 32 years), I am very proud to call this place home. There are many wonderful things to be found here if people would only take the time to look. Problem is, in a small town setting such as Clay, many people are more interested in what someone else is doing than discovering what wonders are truly offered to them daily.

Take a look around you. What do YOU see? Do you notice who's coming and going at the neighbor's house? Or do you see the wonderful beauty of the cloud formation that is perched perfectly over the mountainous backdrop? Are you more concerned with finding out what "so-and-so" said about "what's-her-face" than you are the quiet when you walk out on your porch at night? Do you see the beautiful flowers growing on the hillside as you drive past or instead, are you looking at the people parked beside the road? Are you thankful for the friendly face that you meet while grocery shopping or instead, do you complain because you ran into someone else that you don't care for? A slightly different perspective on things makes life much better. Some people would call it "romanticizing". I call it paying attention to the important things.

We are surrounded by beauty here in Clay County. Take a drive out some of the backroads on the next sunshiny day. Take the time to realize how well we really do have it here. Pay attention to the small things, for they are what SHOULD be important. Enjoy your surroundings. There are many, many things to be experienced here, things that many locals often take for granted....such as the amazing view out at the top of Triplett Ridge on a cloudy day...going to the creek up Spread Hollow, catching "crawdads", listening to the creek rustling by and the birds serenading from the trees...driving to Carbide and fishing in the lake...Summer days spent playing in the river down Elkhurst or up Lilly in the creek...sitting on the riverbank by a "wide spot" on Route 4....watching the first snow falling while in the comfort of your living room....camping up Leatherwood.

To me, both the best and worst part of this county is the fact that everyone knows just about everyone (or at least their family). It's great to be able to go out at any given point and find a familar person to carry on a conversation with. It's wonderful to drive past houses and have people sitting on the porch throw up their hand to wave hello, whether you know them or not. If we would only concern ourselves with OUR OWN happiness, OUR OWN matters, Clay County would be the absolute perfect place to live. Leave others to their own troubles instead of sticking our noses where they don't belong. (By the way, this is NOT aimed at anyone in particular. This is all collectively speaking.) If it doesn't directly concern you, then don't get involved.

Leave the "news" to the people who write it instead of passing gossip around like wildfire. Find something else to pass the time, something more constructive and less destructive. Don't take for granted the life you have here. Many people in larger settings never get the opportunity to experience the surroundings that we wake up to each and every morning. Instead, they only see the cold hard streets and buildings at every turn. They are plagued with worry of more serious matters such as getting shot while driving down the street or mugged when walking to the store. These are a part of everyday life for millions. We may have some thieves and a slight problem with drug manufacturing and usage, but in comparison to bigger towns and cities, these things are very small.

Ever watch the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou"? If so, do you remember George Clooney's lines when he attempts to order the vehicle part and the Dapper Dan and the clerk tells him he can get them in two weeks? It goes something like this...."Well, ain't this place a geographical oddity? Two weeks from everywhere." In a sense, those two sentences describe Clay County. We are stuck in a bit of a time warp, which (in my opinion) in today's society is a great thing. We have a slower pace here. Life doesn't have to be one gigantic rush. I, for one, am grateful for that as well as for the ability to appreciate what a great place Clay County truly is.

Anonymous said...

We need to be thankful our blessing and work on our shortfalls. We did an excellent job in the last election in my opinion. I am a man set in my ways but I voted for a woman for commissioner and a "hot head" for sheriff and I have never thought twice about either vote. Randy Holcomb and Fran King are at the courthouse everyday. While Randy is cuffin and stuffin, Fran is looking for money cover other needed costs. This is a good team and we want to keep them working together for as long as we can. In my opinion Clay County is on the road to recovery if we all hang on and help instead of complain. Clayberry sucks hind tit for one reason. We don't have a business plan. It's not the mountainous terrain, low job skills, aging residents, or anything else.
For this county to provide for a future instead of just reacting to what comes down the road, we need a short term and long term business plan. Currently, we have no goals and twist whichever way the wind blows. Our worst, longest lasting, decisions come when we just react.
That business plan thang was mentioned during my bid for CCC last year and thanks to the 1070 folks that jumped party lines and voted for a future in the county of little.

Andy - I think you should hang a title on yourself & go for it. Look what you've done for the radio station & The Communicator. I think those 1070 (1 of those was ME!) sent you a message loud & clear - we think you can change things & we'd like to see it done. I think it's funny how Clay has 3 commissioners, but only 1 gets any attention & it's negative; CRPSD has 5 board members, but only 1 gets any attention & it's negative. It's time we had something POSITIVE to say!

I'm with you Rose, I also voted for Andy! I think it takes great courage to stand up for certain issues in this county and he has done just that.
For those that think I'm a devil worshipper just because I think that Sams is a JOKE!! I'm most definitely NOT. I was born and raised in Clay county w/ morals, values, common sense and to believe in God. I do believe in God...but why is there such a fight over "Whose" God is the "RIGHT" one?? Isn't it enough to live in America and have the choice of "believing" or not.
Unlike the stone throwers in this county... unintellingent, back-wood, ignorant heathens that hold fast to the belief that if you don't worship "their" God...or you don't believe the way that they do.. you should be less than them.
For Sams...and trust me I know him personally... It's all a ploy!!!
I know the under-handed dealings that go on with certain people of "importance" in this county.(someday I may write a book about what I know--but for now, I have a family to raise and I don't have the guts that AW has to follow thru w/ it. ) It's WHO you suck up to that matters in this county. And from what I've seen AW has done NO SUCH THING. He could care less about whose butt to kiss.
He is who he is..and nothing more.
I'd vote for AW 2x if it were allowed.
This is a little off beat.. but I'd like to address something. What ever happened to the Chuck Blankenship so-called "accident"?? I don't believe for one iota of a second that it was an accident!! Period. I think that he was w/ the wrong crowd and possibly found out too much and was "taken out" (just like a couple of others have been) ...to keep things quiet. I talked w/ him just days before his "accident". He was heartbroken and sick that he had made some bad decisions in life and lost his wife and kids because of it. (trust me, this was bow season and he was walking up Rt. 4 and NOT hunting...I know this was NOT the normal for Chuck) What ever happened to the missing things from the car.. why was he in the backseat...why did he have trauma to the back of his head if he indeed did hit the cliff head on...???? No one ever answered his wifes questions...just another of the "back door dealings in Clay" that if you are considered a threat you are simply "removed" as a threat.(this was under the former sheriffs time) And then life is continued as if these persons didn't even exist. It's sick. Chuck is NOT forgotten..and never will be. I certainly hope that Carol and the boys are doing well and have found peace w/ his "accident" better than I have( and I'm sure that's NOT the case) because I believe there is more to the story. And to clarify..for those that are going to speculate about "how" i knew Chuck, he and his wife and kids were neighbors, friends of a relative and simply put.. just plain old good people!!
I am choosing to remain anonymous just because I don't want anything started with my family because of "WHAT" I've questioned here ... and "WHO" I've questioned. Rose, I know you too chic... and when I see ya out sometime I'll give ya a yell.. :)
As for Holcomb.. he is doing a good job. I wish he were in office a couple of years back--- I'm sure things would have turned out differntly. Enough of my rant... but Rose please let Carol know that some of us have NOT forgotten her or what has happened...she is in our prayers. :)

Andy Waddell, you readin' this stuff?? Keep that billboard up!

Wow, Anon, talk about "a little off beat"!! We just had our 3rd Thanksgiving w/o Chuck & his presence was missed as much this time as the first. He was part of our family for more years than I even care to think about & his spirit is with us always. I'm sure a few people know exactly what happened & as unChristian as it might be, I sincerely hope with all my being that they someday suffer a loss as great as ours. & Carol's a frequent clicker here, so ... I expect we might hear from her, too. ;)

About Chuck, i tried to go up & see the car, but i was told it was "evidence". OF WHAT? i never saw no skid marks or anything that even made it look like a real wreck. lots of people said the car wasn't even messed up. the car might nota been, but the cover up was!

Very interesting reading. Let me say that I heard that the reason there was no board members at the Pumpkin Ridge Community Meeting is because they weren't supposed to be there. They didn't want the board members knowing what they were up to. I live on Pumpkin Ridge, and after all the fuss and everything about getting water, it kinda makes me not want it. I'm perfectly satisfied with hauling it. And I do take a shower with the water I have. I don't know why MP doesn't have her water hooked up like that. I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to have city water. You wouldn't have to worry about if your tank was getting low and what not but man, 20 years plus, waiting on water. The water isn't even that great. Anyway, sorry to turn this into a 'water' conversation. This is just some stuff I was thinking.

racing8fan, you can turn it into just about any kind of conversation you want to. Water seems to be the topic du jour. I was in ... maybe 9th grade? ... when Procious PSD first sent water through the pipes up Twistabout & it was definitely cause for celebration! You guys should've had water years & years ago up there.

Rose your sight is alright I just think your alittle judgemental on people you know you don't have to correct everyone's spelling and what not. I think that everyone is judging just alittle bit to hard on MP because you all don't have the right let GOD and the judges sort it out. I don't think anyone should be put on a pedal stool because everyone can get knocked off. I think that everyone should comment on everything that they want to say. This is what you put the sight on here for right. TELL WHAT IS ON YOUR MIND! Well I also want to say Good Job to Barbara S. for to stay seated at the monday night counsel meeting in Clendenin.

signed: Not Judgemental GOD is the only one you have to answer to.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out what "for to stay" means. hahaha.. lol
Sorry people, it had to be done! And one last note: Rose, please be very careful-I hear "PEDAL STOOLS" are being knocked over these days. LOL
