Those who know me know how I feel about the No Child Left Behind Act. In a nutshell, I think it's ridiculous. It's a classic example of a good idea gone horribly wrong. HOWEVER, it is FEDERALLY MANDATED LEGISLATION that must be followed by all public schools.
Per a letter dated July 28, 2006, parents of Clay County Middle School students were informed of CCMS's failure to meet these federally mandated guidelines for 2 years in a row. As such, the school is now required to offer "school choice." Since Clay County only has 1 school serving grades 6-8, school choice "is not feasible." Which means our children have no other option than to continue attending a school that's been federally flagged as a failure.
FURTHERMORE, per an additional letter dated July 28, 2006, Clay County is now offering free tutoring for select middle school children who meet certain income guidelines. Not ALL children, but only those who are eligible for free or reduced price lunch. This tutoring is being offered because the school has actually failed to meet the federal guidelines for 3 years in a row.
Does it bother anybody besides me that some children - like my own, who do NOT qualify for free or reduced price lunches - are forced to attend a FAILING SCHOOL, yet don't qualify for the additional assistance that MIGHT help them further in life? Or do we already know that the high school is failing, too, so really, the only solution is to move out of Clay County?
Whose fault is it that the schools are failing? Who's being discriminated against?

for the benefit of us ignorant rednecks;
what are these guidelines and who responsibility is it to see that they are meet?
Reading, writing, math & English are the core subjects that have to be mastered. They're not.
Ignorant redneck or Rhodes scholar, the whole d*mn NCLB act is stupid. Nobody understands it, which is probably why there are so many problems. Plus, here in Clay, there's a lot of "we don't have to do it THEIR way, we'll just keep doing it OUR way so they'll give us more money to crow about".
Yet teachers still continue to get pay raises.
http://www.ed.gov/nclb/landing.jhtml?src=pb
Doesn't the new law provide that the school must pay to ship children to wherever the parents want?
Maybe I read it wrong.
Could you repeat the question?
Just cant wait for school to start so i can listen to the dumb a** teacher that put kids on the wrong buses and lose them..
DID YOU EVER WONDER IF THE TEACHERS LOOK AT THE KIDS IN THE BUS LINE TO RELIZE THAT THEY HAVE A UNFAMILER FACE STATING IN THERE LINE.. OR MAYBE LOOK AT THE BUS PASS.
STANDING.OPPS
Kids don't have to know how to write their names for the Westest & NCLB doesn't care who they are.
So why even bother to teach the kids how to write their own friggin names?
Change the Westest then teach nothing but that so they look good & then fail the NCLB so they can get more money.
Maybe they could teach the illiterate kids to be bus monitors.

Once upon a time in a state far, far away, I worked in the school system. The first thing we did with the kids in the mornings was pass out a sheet and practice for the standard test..every day. Do the teachers even teach the kids how to take that Westest? That's what our kids did...they learned how to take those tests and our schools were always accredited because of those practice sheets.
Keep in mind, just one county over,Geary Middle school mests the NCLB standrds each year
Roane can Clay Can't?
When I was in school, we had "achievement tests." The "practice" took place throughout the year. It was called "school work." At the end of the year, we tested on what we'd "achieved." It was quite simple.
Throughout the year, it was up to the teacher to determine if the kids were "achieving" or not. If not, s/he would come up with some brilliantly creative way to make sure every kid had every chance. Some kids plain couldn't. That's to be be expected. The majority, though, eventually found a groove. Why? Because teachers were given that creative liberty, not some manual from which they weren't allowed to stray.
I wonder how many teachers today could *teach* without that manual?
The NCLB Act states that every kid must "master" a skill. The problem with this is that to "master" the skill, the kid must eventually come around to the manual's way of thinking, not actually LEARN the skill. Much like my dog has learned to play fetch, though he has no idea what he's doing or why it seems to please me so.
The ugly part of all this is that the WesTest manual doesn't necessarily agree with the NCLB manual & what the h*ll happens when they make changes to either??
Clay County's famous for doing it's own thing, right? Let's ditch all the manuals & let the teachers teach from the gut instead of the bureacracy. Then, if the test scores are still failing, fire the teachers who are failures & start fresh. I'd be willing to bet the scores would go up. Which, of course, would be political suicide, since then the money train would bypass us altogether.
You just cant resist telling us over and over that YOUR kids don't get free lunches.
Mine don't either. Looks like YOURS might.
ALL kids should get free lunch. Shouldnt make any difference. Just another way THE SYSTEM sets kids apart.
Since we live in a Nation of Freedom of Choice take your children to a school that meets the Federal Mandate as you full well know CHANGE at Clayberry schools is not going to happen due to the fact all the BOE members are from the Blublood School and you can not convince people to vote otherwise. Its the Democratic Way
I was at the CCMS yesterday and I thought how funny these "Pat me on the Back" for the good job I am doing and have "Credentials" for, taypayer Leaches really are as over and over from room to room each Teacher was telling the students and Parents in attendance. I will Guarantee that if you do anything to upset the schedule up there the whole "Friggin" outfit would go Bezerk just due the fact that it was not on the "Schedule". From the Superintendent who was there right down to the "Robotized" cooks and janitors it was hilarious to listen to (What a Fine Job I DO) so pat me on the back and KISS MY A** ATTITUDE they all have. They do have nice A** kissing lips though.
I wonder if the teachers at Clay Schools are like all the cashiers at Krogers----under 25 years old.
no lunches are free. they are pasid for by the taxpayer. it is done this way so that another layer of political butt-kissers[voters] can have jobs so that the politicians can claim they have created a lot of jobs and so helped the economy. they do claim they are helping the poor also when in reality they they are just helping themselves to our money.
For the record, you don't have to be POOR to get free/reduced lunches.
I happen to know that just because I divorced my kids' dad and years later remarried another fella. That (remarriage) in and of itself qualifies my kids for medical cards, free/reduced lunches simply because they do NOT have both biological parents in the household.
Whether or not to be a system sucker is the question here.
With enough income to pay for their lunches and medical bills. Do I? should I? Will I go ahead and use the "system" to pay for my co-pays, which a medical card would cover. Do I NOT pay for my kids lunches, when we have the money to pay? Do you have to use benefits just because you "qualify"?
My answer is NO! NO!! H*ll NO!!!
A lot people will find a way to "qualify" to get benefits that they truly don't deserve.
We are teaching our kids that you have WORK to get what you want in life. If you want nicer things, WORK MORE! PERIOD!

KISS OUR ASS!!
with all this Ass kissing talk, and it's from both sides, should maybe make a movie called teachers gone wild, get Snop Dog to film it.
I don't think it's entlrely up to the teachers to determine if a child is achieving. What is the parents' role in this process? Wouldn't it be a novel idea that the parents actually look over the child's work and maybe help in the event that the child doesn't understand a subject? I know that some parents can't help their children because of their own lack of education, but I am sure that most of you folks in Clay County have enough education to at least go to their teacher and ask if there is something YOU could do to help.
seems i remember that the grade card, for parents to see how their child was doing in school, was done away with several years ago. how does a parent find out how their child is doing in school?

The last time I checked to do that it was considered a Hate Crime for people like YOU!!!!!!!
hey redneck you have to go to the school and "suck up" to the teachers to find out anything. Its called the "GOOD OLE BOYS" club.
To redneck, 5:53: Are you saying that your children do not get a report card OR a progress report to take home??? In that case, there's a wonderful invention called the telephone. Call and make an appointment with the teacher or the principal to discuss your child's progress. If by chance you don't have a telephone, go to the school in person. Where there's a will, there's a way! Get involved!
how come these schools of excellence do such a poor job of teaching? then some one has to come out lying and blowing smoke and mirrors and trying to give us all a snow job. you take lonkenauger now, his incompetence is beginning to show now that the public is asking questions. i got a mule ever once in a while it lets off a raspberry. pfttttttttttth think its aimed at the board of education.
If by chance you don't have a telephone, go to the school in person.
See what I told you redneck? "Good ole Boys Club"
Anon at 10:19: Aren't your children worth a little extra effort even if you do believe it is "sucking up"? I know mine are. I would do anything it takes no matter what anyone thinks to make sure my children achieve.
And just maybe thats why the linkster has got such a large little black book?
Didn't anonymous have some good ideas with the practice tests for the children? I consider myself a life long learner and I appreciate the lessons by the Innocent Bystander. Seniors make good mentors and tutorers. Many of them have worked in school systems in other states. They have much to share and would like to come home. Hello Rosemary out in Houston. Would you like to come home? Though we know life is different now than what it used to be. Build a gated community near a lake with lots of recreation, walking trails, etc with its own security system. Retirees will move in and they have a steady income. Invite them to help with the students in mentoring and tutoring. Teachers, you are a talented and wonderful group and have so much responsibility. Keep yourself healthy. Go get that physical every year. If you have been on a lot of antibiotics and feel tired all the time, you need to be on probiotics to restore the good bacteria in your gut. Even a good multiple vitamin would help. You eat a good breaksfast too. The children need their breakfast. Who cares who pays and who does not pay but be discreet about it. Years later after graduating, I went to get my birth certificate in Charleston. The clerk said, were you born illegitimate? With several standing in line behind me, I let her know that my father did not want to be a father to me. How sad that the only bastards there are, are the parents that don't want to be parents. Parents, be parents and get involved. Boy, have I sounded off today. Blessings from No Va.
don/t we pay these teachers to see that our children achieve. why should we have to constantly check on them to see that they do their job. fire their a**s. hey next thing you know Gillipsie won't be able to get by without another levy. then the teachers and administrators won't be able to get by without a pay raise. how much of the costs of their fringe benbfits have been passed onto the taxpayer that is vacation, pension, medical benefits, maternity leave, social security, workers compensation etc. do trachers pay sociasl security?
Hey redneck, your children are YOUR responsibility, not the school's!!! The teachers do not have time to give your child all their attention and let the others do their work on their own. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AS A PARENT AND STOP BLAMING THE SYSTEM FOR YOUR CHILDRENS' FAILURE.
why are we paying these deadbeats who want on welfare while giving the appearance that their doing something worthwhile. that is teachers who can't teach. now they are hiring a coach to coach the teachers. i learned to read before i started to school. we didn't have headstart in those days. didn't have methamphetamins either. i believe in hiring people who will give a days work. not set on their a**es whilea teachers aides do the work. didn't have teachers aides when i went to school, either.
Rose dont you have a youngn in middle school? Maybe you ought to see if he can figure out which one wrote the "Kiss My A**" message. That sends a graet message to the kids at that teachers school.
Wes, you have not blogged for awhile. We all would like to know how you are doing. Maybe some of you or the teachers have a list of the Clay County sons and daughters who are serving in Iraq or Afghanistan with their P O addresses or email addresses. I want to get together some boxes to send. I am new at this. I know they need moist wipes, snacks, phone cards, dental floss, toothpaste, toothbrushes and lots more. I am reading Operation Interdependence on the internet. Clay County sons and daughters, we thank you for the great job you are doing. I am praying for peace.
Wow. Again, I leave town & this thing takes off without me. Hmm.
I hate it when I agree with more than one side of the issue, though. Unfortunately, there is some merit to both sides of this one, no matter which side you're looking at it from.
I've ALWAYS been involved in my kids' education, which is why I can confidently say from personal experience it's not always a simple matter of parent's randomly blaming teachers for their kids' failures. Several years ago, I TRIED to follow the proper channels, TRIED to be politically correct, TRIED to be diplomatic, TRIED to be mature & professional. When you're dealing with ... the mentality level we were dealing with ..., though, all that flies out the window. From the teachers to the principal to the superintendent, I got nada. Nothing. Zilch. Until I went to the State level with all my documentation. Not surprisingly, he wasn't surprised to find out I was a Clay County parent. What was surprising was that a new school unveiled a totally new kid. Imagine that.
So were my parenting skills miraculously improved? No. Was my (7-year-old) child really the spastic con man headed for a life of crime he was made out to be? No. Can I comfortably blame the school & all it entailed? Well? Can I??
I do, indeed, have a child in middle school. Last year was his first year there & we had "issues" in math class. This is my straight A, never been in trouble kid, failing math. To some extent, I'm sure there's a hormone issue here. Middle school sucks. Middle school kids can be monsters. When I took my concerns to the teacher & the Ass. VP, both explained to me that they had to teach the kids in such a way that they could pass the WesTest. Not in a way that ensured the kids learned (though I guess it's a fortuitous by-product if they do), but in such a way that it'd look good on State test scores. It didn't matter that my kid could come up with the right answer & explain exactly how he did it; it was all in how he was putting it down on paper. The WesTest only gives credit for a specific technique.
I'm not one to put much stock in other people's opinions without first forming my own, but I was told by a blue million people that if I'd put my kid an a cheerleading outfit & change his name to something more feminine, he'd do much better in that particular class. Uh ... no. I think I won't.
It's perfectly natural for teachers to have favorites. That's human nature & believe it or not, teachers are human. It's perfectly natural for some to be better than others. HOWEVER, becoming a teacher is a conscious career choice. If you choose to become a public defender, you defend whoever you're given to the greatest extent of your ability. If you choose to become a doctor, you treat every patient who comes your way to the greatest extent of your ability. If you choose to become a teacher, you ... are free to say, "I can't teach 18 individual kids, I'm teaching a whole class" & be supported by both your boss & the county super. Sorry, folks, but that class is made up of 18 individuals, each one just as important as the next & every single one of them deserve the greatest extent of your ability. If you can't give it, a career reevaluation might be in order.
This county has some fantastic educators. I could spout off at least a dozen names of people who should be given medals for their contributions to children & their educations. Those aren't really the ones who stand out, though. Those are the ones you look back on & say, "Wow. S/he really changed my world for the better." It only takes a few, though, to totally muck it all up. One el-sucko math teacher in elementary school can ruin a kid for life. One hateful, overbearing kindergarten teacher can scar a child for life. One kind, caring teacher can change a kid's life. Teachers truly give credence to "one person CAN make a difference" - but it works both ways.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get down off my soapbox & get my household ready for school to start tomorrow. BAHAHAHAHAHA
I saw a hateful overbearing kindergarten teacher at the Dollar tree the other day. What's fer supper!!!???
Great attitude, CCMS Teacher. Look in the mirror. You might be staring at the BAD APPLE that ruins the whole bushel.
The problem is the teachers ARE giving the best of their ability. They just aint got much ability to be handin out.
I had a teacher named Mr. Lewis along about 1964,and what he taught in class he would relate to things around his farm. Well he got our attention and we learned alot, I think. In time he was fired cause he did'nt go by the book. This problem of a teacher not having a free hand,to a point, at teaching if they are teaching, not just putting there time in for a retirement check, not a good thing. And do they still have a PTA association in schools now days, where parents have a say so in matters?
CCMS Teachers said........
You people make us laugh. Most of you are uneducated and have no idea what it takes to educate a child. You have failed as a parent and you want to blame it on us.
And to you Rose....You have a problem child, don't blame it on the system. Look in the mirror...what do you see? Isn't it apPARENT??!!! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAH....
I think, anon, you need to go back & reread what I wrote without your own spin on things.
If you'll notice, I've praised where praise is due & criticized only where it's warranted. My "problem child" wasn't a "problem" once he was removed from the "problem" environment. So maybe it's not the *system* or the *parents*. Maybe it's the *environment*.
Incidentally, "CCMS teachers" - if you're really "CCMS teachers" & you're on my blog during school time, perhaps there's more merit to the failures of teachers than any of us have even hinted at yet.
Don't feel bad Clay County Middle School teachers. If it makes you feel any better the ones in Kanawha County aren't any better.
I think they might be better versed in their lip service, but their follow through is just as bad as yours.

STATEMENT:
Most of you are uneducated and have no idea what it takes to educate a child.
REALITY:
The same is being said about YOU, the teachers. YOU prove it on a daily basis. When 1 child fails, it's the child. When the whole friggin' school fails, it tends to be the teachers. Parents send their kids to school because the teachers are supposed to be more educated than they are. That's what teachers get paid for.
STATEMENT:
You have failed as a parent and you want to blame it on us.
REALITY:
Parents fail only their own children. Teachers fail entire classrooms at a time. How many kids are failing at the middle school right now? How many of them have the same teachers? How many of them have the same parents?
Point.

Who's next?
Perhaps administration should show up on here and defend their charges.
That won't happen, it's not in the book of rules they go by.
They d*mn sure wouldn't leave their names.
Now lets don't get the teachers Pis*'d off for they just might go on strike for more money just to get even, and us ignorant, uneducated ones will have to pay for the levy. And that one that talked about Rose and her child needs to put a cork in it.
The administration won't say a word. The teachers that they are in charge of are only as good as they are required by law to be. Admin. doesn't care as long as they keep getting their healthy pay checks.
I guess teachers in general can be, bigots, racists, and fags or they can sue for equal rights. It might not be in there book to go by but it should be in there book of morals.
Bigots, racists and fags.
Talk about your problem children
Geeesh!
Uneducated Parents should stop paying their uneducated taxes and have it spent on UNDEREDUCATED TEACHERS who are greener then fog on goose poop to start with. Like it has been said before: Those that can Do Those that can't Teach. So thats in a nutshell, it has been and always will be the same.
If teachers weren't so dumb our taxes wouldn't be so high. And yes I expect some of you teachers to type all your comments and post them here for the world to see. I have heard the same ole crap for years now as to how good a tax levy is and how it helps the children out so much but thats just a hype put out by those that need more money in the budget so they can pocket that much more. Of course when you pass a Levy and then get big raises any fool knows who its helping and it sure is not the children. So parents buckle up because they are already planning another Levy and of course the school teachers are the ones to pass such trash and THEY are the ones that always benefit from TAX INCREASES in any form. Seventy Cents + goes for the school system taken in by the county. Very soon now the county budget and school budget will hit the papers read it for yourselves. I to am Anonymously typing away.BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Good morning!
Why do teachers today become teachers in the first place?
What's the ratio of female teachers to male? Does it matter?
If parents are to blame for the failure of their children, what does that mean for kids whose parents are teachers?
What do those teachers who are parents think of the school system from a parent's point of view?
how do you expect to get an honest comment from the people who get their paycheck from the system you expect them to critize?
The three most popular reasons to become a teacher:
June
July
August
The Bigots, Racists, and Fags was pointed at a few that work in the system in Clay Co. Why does the suck up administration let this continue. answer, to cover thy all mighty a*s, do as I do, follow my lead, vote for me and i'll take care of you and yours. Bull Sh*t.

Rose has 2 very nice boys and I would love to know the teacher that made that statement. He/She needs taken behind the wood shed and given a old fashioned whoopin....Grow up Teachers and do what you are paid to do..... and if you don't like it go back to school to do something else it is your choice... AMEN
I became a teacher because I love children. I also wanted to stay in Clay County and help be able to make a living for my family. The great majority of chidren in our county need extra help to properly achieve. I am willing to go that extra mile.
There are more females than males in the classroom, that is a nation wide trend.
Good teachers are not always good parents. Parenting is not an easy job. We all have some failures with our children.
However, we should face up to those failures and not blame the school system, friends of our chidren or the boogie man.
June, July and August are nice, but teachers do not get paid for those three months. However, they do get paid for the other months because they WORK, unlike the majority of people who live in this county.
Judging by what I've read, the Boogie man and teachers are one in the same. Had me fooled for years though. BAHAHAHAHAAA
You are poorly informed, that is the problem with most of you. You don't have a job, most of you draw some sort of welfare and you depend of the few who do work to pay for you.
Teachers get zero money from the school levy. If you want proof, ask the administration to give you an account of what the levy does go for.
Or is that too difficult for you? It is much easier to sit on your but, do nothing and criticize the rest of the world.
How about we start with criticizing your spelling?
Teachers CAN get paid for the summer months. It's their choice whether they take a 12-month pay year or a 9-month. Same pay, just less of it each month if you spread it over 12.
There was a 2.6 million dollar question pointed at the administration and never was answered. Heres your chance to answer it to the Clay Co. tax payers or just dig your selfs a deeper hole in the cover up.
Look at all of the wonderful, underpaid, caring, giving, under appreciated, saintly educators [heavy sarcasm] blogging when they should be teaching. I guess they are using computers paid for by taxpayer dollars to post from? Are they in defiance of the school board policy on computer use? We already know they are in violation of good sense and work ethic.

Typical SUCK A** Answer but you are right I do sit on my butt not but and I got some very informitive information for you.
Figures don't lie but LIARS figure and the administration can show anything they want any way they want it to come out to look good. Only a Public Accountant could tell where the monies were spent or the one spending it. How many times over and over and over must teachers get raises before a STOP is put on it. After all a teacher should be paid the same as the average household in this county or any other county and not 4x what the average family makes.
Hey all you Teflon parents, ya wanna know how you can be sure that your children will be given THE BEST education? You could HOME SCHOOL them. Boy-o-boy can you just see all the geniuses we'd have in Clay then?! Ahahahahahahaha
- non-teacher
Ah, but then the public school system would lose all federal funding for that home schooled child. No subsidiary for his "free" lunch, no Title I $$ for the school, no gas $$ for his bus, no nuthin nuthin nuthin. Gotta keep those poor kids in public schools! EGADS! What if every parent yanked their kids & home schooled? The county would cease to exist!!
A young, well-educated man on a business trip gets on the plane to find himself seated next to an older, weathered man in a western snap shirt, faded jeans and a cowboy hat. Thinking himself above the old cowboy, the young man decides to make sport of him.
"You know," he says, "I've heard these flights go much more quickly if you strike up a conversation with a fellow passenger. So, let's talk."
The cowboy looks at him wryly and says, "Well I s'pose that'd be all right. What would you like to discuss?"
"Oh, I don't know," says the young man with a hint of sarcasm. "How about nuclear proliferation?"
"Hmm," says the cowboy, sensing the young man's attempt to belittle him, "That could be an interesting topic. But, let me ask
you a question first. Horses, cows, and deer all eat the same stuff--grass. Yet, a deer passes
little pellets, a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse makes muffins of dried poop. Why do you suppose that is?"
Dumbfounded, the young man repies, "I haven't the slightest idea."
"So tell me then," says the cowboy with a smile, "How is it that you feel qualified to discuss nukes
when you don't know sh*t?"
Just thought that one kinda fit in here.

What is the worst form of child abuse in Clay County?
Answer: Home Schooling

The WesTest is strictly for the enhancement of the educational system. The results mean nothing to the student.
ACT and SAT scores are the only true indicators of student achievement. Take a look at those scores and you will see the dismal failure of the Clay County School system.
80% of state tax dollars go toward education. What are the results
Any Clay county educated folks out there tell me what the 180 days of school divided by 30 days in a month equals in work months?
Oh, goody! A math question!!
Let's see. Not really 30 days in a month - ya gotta compensate for weekends. That leaves only 22 days in a month.
Then you have to take a day away for those Faculty Senate meetings & such. That's 21 days in a month. 180 divided by 21 is 8.57.
School starts around 8 & lets out around 3, with what? an hour for lunch? That's 6 hours a day. If you multiply 6 hours a day by 21 days in a month by 8.57 months, you come up with around 1080 a year. The average full-time employee works 2080 hours a year.
But take my math for what it's worth. I'm a Clay County High School graduate. No, scratch that. I had some of the best math teachers this side of the Mississippi. Besides, I used a calculator.
Hey Rose, you want a good math question, whats the value of pie?
'bout $5.99, depending on where you buy it.
does that go for cow pie too?
Not real sure about that one. The last cow pie I had to worry about cost me a good grounding. Cost my brother a good switchin'. So I guess it depends on whether you're the throwee or the thrower. Then again, they were free until we got caught.
Here's an interesting perspective from "the other side." Not our own "other side," of course, but just a general message board.

Now just look at all the confusion you've caused now Ms Rose
From now on traditional planets will be restricted to eight: Mercury, Venus. Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.......
my heart is breaking for Pluto ; ;
Yikes, sir henry! That's some serious math!! I bet you had Mildred Ward in school, didn't you? teeheehee
Didn't mean to confuse anybody, Anon. Just trying to add a little balance. The thing about "balance" is that it's not always balanced at all.
Students work the same work day as teachers, then come home & do homework. The homework limit for middle school kids is 1 hour. HOWEVER, the NCLB Act allows for a lot of "rework," which means that 1 hour could feasibly turn into 2 or 5 or more. This, of course, is meant to "benefit" the student. I'm sure it does. I mean, isn't WV the leader in high school graduates going on to become professional workaholics, putting in the same 10-12 hour days they've already been trained for?
& Pluto's fine. Who the heck do those people think they are, anyway? You can't just up & declare a planet's no longer a planet. Good grief.
"Rework"? Was there in clause in NCLB for "reteach" when it isn't done correctly the first time and all children are failing?
Actually, it is called "reteach". But it's really "rework".
Oh, I wasn't talking about all the fringe benefits in a month. I was talking about just a regular old month like actual working time. 180 days mandated by the state. I don't have a calculator but I come up with 6 months a year.
Lordy Lordy look who's 40
Clay Middle fails to perform!

Maybe some of you Brainiacs could use your powers for good instead of evil and go offer to help some of these underachievers.
I bet if the state mandated a law that when a child had to "rework or be retaught" that the teacher who failed the first time had to do it on their time without pay the second time you would see a big difference in a big way. Then we would have "No Child Left Behind" and teachers earning their Payday also.
RE: Clay Middle Fails-
It was only
One section of Special Ed.
They dont have Jesus Christ working there.
My kid goes there and he likes it much more than he did elementary.
I think they do a good job.
They have failed twice?
http://wveis.k12.wv.us/nclb/public05/replistD1.cfm?xrep=1&cn=016&sn=301&det=0
Seems that another time or two and Clay Middle will be in session year around. Then the teachers will want more money, or they will all transfer.
As for them not employing Jesus, I agree, but 85% of the other schools in the state seem to have contracted with one of the Disciples!!!! They are passing!!! Once again Clay is at the bottom!
Look where the failures are occurring-
Special Education.
You cant make pottery out of poop.
I dont even see the Disciples doing any good in that.
NO TEACHERS ARE NOT DRUG TESTED...HMMM DOES ANYONE ELSE SEE A PROBLEM THERE. IT IS AMAZING THAT THE JANITORS AND THE BUS DRIVERS ARE. SO I GUESS IT IS OK FOR THE TEACHERS WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO TEACH OUR CHILDREN CAN DO DRUGS. AND THE BUS DRIVERS JUST HAVE TO KEEP IT BETWEEN THE LINES...ITS JUST AMAZING WHO THIS COUNTY AROUND HERE WORKS.
Pottery out of poop? That's real rich coming from someone who obviously has no job and can sit around during the middle of theday buzzing the internet. I bet my little special ed poo, who's already a better person than you ever thought about being, will surpass you in every aspect of becoming a contributing member of society, you ignorant sh*t for brains!
You Makin' Funna Me??
You Makin' Funna Me?
"Special Education" covers a whole lotta ground. Dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, autism, blindness, deafness, GIFTED ... these are all conditions that will land you in "Special Education."
All those Title I resources everybody's always hootin' & hollerin' about are under the umbrella of "Special Education."
Title I resources don't require a teaching certificate or a "highly qualified" teacher. Nope, Title I funds will pay for a paraprofessional to teach.
I don't in any way want to diminish the role of paraprofessionals. They're vital to our schools. However, I don't think any of them are on a Disciple level, let alone hanging with The Man Himself.
MP was in special ed in high school. Look what a great job they did with her.
Yeah students do practice the westest. Did parents ever think of joining the teachers in teaching their own kids. Many parents in this county couldnt even tell you who their child's teacher is. They are probably the ones doing all of the complaining on this site.
I have a hard time explaining to my child why she gets a lunch bill every month and her good friend doesn't. Her friend ask her one day if she could take it home and give it to her mom just so she could have one. So she did. Unfortunately I still had to pay the bill.
A long time ago in a far away land school teachers began taking over the role parents used to have with children.
In this land of make believe they removed the paddle from the classroom, replaced that with Drugs. Took Jesus out of the classroom and replaced him with guns. Now that they got that done and want to remove In God We Trust from the pledge of allegiance they want parents to once again return to school so they can teach them the new found way of SUCK A**. Now what they really want is to draw their paycheck and parents to show up at school and teach the child so they can correct the parent if they don't do it right.
When I was in school I either got edumacated or I got the belt when I got home. Noone had to tell their child the second time then to do anything that was expected them to do. Society has torn down the FAMILY STRUCTURE and parents just need to pay their taxes on time, keep their mouth shut and SUCK UP to the SYSTEM.
Sure is a sad day we live in with all the modern changes and consolidation which has proven to be a disaster throughout the land. Pay higher wages and get less work for the buck. Makes sense to me.
The system, the parents, the teachers ... could it be the *rights*?
Kanawha County schools are asking parents not to send peanut butter for their kids' lunch. They're doing this because peanuts - in any form - can cause severe reactions in some kids. Peanut allergies are airborne & the deadly "fumes" alone are enough to cause severe reactions in some kids. Sometimes, severe enough to result in death.
The local news stations, of course, are making a huge story out of this. The parent they've interviewed for the blurb says peanut butter is the only food her child will eat. She took her PB&J to school, somebody refused to let her eat it & the school neglected to give her anything else to eat. The mom already stated there wasn't anything else she'd eat. Then the mom goes on to ask why one kid's *rights* are more important than her own kid's.
One child's right to be a finicky eater are to be given the same importance as another child's right to live.
Go figger.
Hey Rose you Mother Goose, I herd a rose by any other name is not the same ROSE?
Yeah-Ive heard those rumors about Uranus
It's a sad sad world we live in (Master Jack) don't no the rest of it now.
A full-fledged planet must orbit the sun
this includes us all.
it must be large, it must be round
and look much like a ball.
it must dominate it's neighborhood
and create some serious suction.
it needs large moons to call its own
anything less ... deduction.
Pluto's now been classed a dwarf
by pinheads in a lab.
well, let me tell you something
and this ain't idle gab.
think about these facts I've stated
and I'm sure that you will see.
Pluto's cold, Rose is a dwarf
the planet? That'd be MP.
Ooooooooo(mp)10th rock from the sun
"Peanut allergies are airborne & the deadly "fumes" alone are enough to cause severe reactions in some kids. Sometimes, severe enough to result in death. "
I didn't know that peanut allergies are airborne. I wonder then why when I enrolled my kids at school they required he get a TB test, because TB is an airbourne disease, but they didn't require a peanut test.
CB
Earth 3rd rock from the sun- MP Large pile of minerals on the Earth.
Peanuts & their airborne qualities are the reason you no longer get them or nuts of any sort (other than the human kind, of course) on airplanes. They're deadly little boogers.
Let me clarify my earlier post about this, since it would seem as though I've evidently left room for selective translation. >;-) The irate parent interviewed was irate because she's been asked not to send PB&J for her finicky eater's lunch. She's not being singled out in any way - Kanawha County schools have either sent or will be sending this request (via letter) to every parent of a Kanawha County student. They're doing this because so many kids are allergic to peanuts.
The parent interviewed actually said something to the effect of "why are one kid's rights more important than my kid's?" In essence, what she was saying was, "Why should my finicky little girl, who will only eat peanut butter, have to go hungry just so that kid who's allergic to peanut butter can live another day?"
Point being - maybe there are too many "rights" in today's society as a whole. Maybe that's got something to do with why we're going to hell in a handbasket ...........
I wonder if the Linkster had any peanut butter concockshuns in the little book he handed out while running for the CCC? I'm sure he would be looking out for the childrens welfare in Clay Co.
Just when you think these blogs are doing better, some idiot has to go drag up old news again.
i wonder why the Dept. of ed. has turned against JIMMY CARTER in his old age. i think he's still living. first thing you know they'll say we musn't eat fish worms. JIMMY CARTER , i think, raises fishworms, DAMN, NO MEAT, NO PEANUTS for breakfast. how's a person going to survive on a little social security check. no medicaid, no gov. subsidy. it's not discrimation it's an incentive to crime. anyone need a drug salesperson.
One track minds!!!!!!!!!!!
The new CCMS principal just thinks he's God. I guess that's par for the course since the last principal considered herself as high in the ranks as Mary, the Mother of Jesus.
CCMS has led a checkered existence for many a year. Don't expect it to change as long as the current regime hires as in times past.
Still tryin to take God out of the schools, huh?
I think we need Him in whatever form.
Sorry, "CCMS teachers" - that's the kind of language that gets you deleted from this site.
Guess "collective" was too big a word for the comprehension level of this crowd.
i no wat collective iz.
i git caws fum bill collectives alla tim.
ay kud collective i kud pay.
but i kant.
"Collective" certainly isn't above anyone's comprehension; I'm simply trying to save face for real teachers everywhere. Real teachers would never limit themselves to 3-letter words. Real teachers would never have missed the opportunity to improve someone's vocabulary.
For instance: backside, behind, bottom, derriere, fanny, fundament, gluteus maximus, haunches, hindquarters, posterior.
Those are words real teachers would use.
So much posterior, so little time. There ain't that much pucker in the whole d*mn county.
Is'nt ROSE so purdy when she gets mad?
I have met Rose's children. Let me say that they are not saints.
The one is a constant trouble maker. Rose just wants to blame someone else for her failed attempt as a parent.
Good students start at home.
CORRECTIVE ACTION: The county district must impose corrective action on Title I schools which do not make adequate yearly progress for four consecutive years. NCLB describes six potential corrective actions, one of which, consistent with state law, must be implemented.

LOL Lord, I hope my kids aren't saints! It's hard enough being a parent without THAT kind of pressure! Nope, not my kids. Nowhere near sainthood, that's for sure. Compared to lots of others, though, I'll take mine any day.
Mad? Me? At whom? For what? Did I hit anybody?
Incidentally, "hewhite person," thanks for the compliment! Good students DO start at home & both of mine have the grades to prove it. Of course, the excellent teachers we've been blessed with the past couple of years have made a world of difference.
It is a proven fact that students who's parents are "involved" in their education do significantly better than those who's parents are not involved. it starts at home! you can't just blame the school system for not motivating your kids to learn, if they are not getting the proper guidence, supervision, and motivation at home.
the bus drivers are drug tested because they have CDL license. It is a great idea no matter state law or not. I however also think that ANYBODY employed by the board of education should be tested, but at the present time state law says that you cannot do it. I think everyone should get together and protest the law makers to get this changed
