I passed about a million motorcycles this morning on the interstate.

I gotta say, if you can witness this caravan of motorcycling veterans on their way to Washington, DC & not feel the urge to salute, recite the Pledge of Allegience and/or break into a rousing rendition of The Star Spangled Banner (& possibly even tear up), you need to get the hell out of my country.

We walked among the crosses
Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As taps began to play.

The Chaplain led a prayer
We stood with heads bowed low.
And I thought of fallen comrades
I had known so long ago.

They came from every city
Across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here 'neath the sand.

I felt a little guilty
My sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time
But these men lost their all.

Now the services are over
For this Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses
I just want to say,

THANK YOU

Memorial Day is special,
It comes once a year in May,
But I honestly must tell you,
I observe it every day.

How could this heart of mine forget,
Loved ones who've gone on,
No day is done - no night goes by,
I do not think of every one.

It's fine to wave a flag and march,
And salute and stand erect,
My eyes brim over, I choke up,
I bow my head and pay respect.

I'm proud of every war time hero,
Those that returned and those that died,
And I ache for all those empty arms
That long to hug them to their side.

I always cry when I hear Taps,
I can't hold back the tears,
It doesn't matter when it's played,
Whatever day - whatever year.

I buy the Veteran's Poppies,
Which I fasten to my blouse,
I support each Veteran's cause,
And I fly a flag atop my house.

Memorial Day, of course, is right,
But it's everyday to me,
I think of loved ones who've passed on,
Every day I breathe.

Calhoun Middle School implemented the "Respect and Protect" program at the beginning of this school year. It's to improve student responsibility and behavior.

Why doesn't Clay Middle have this same program? We're always quick to punish & condemn, but rarely do we pat anybody on the back.

Anonymous said...

Clay middle does have a responsible student program! Where have you been?

Anonymous said...

Now if Clay Middle only had a responsible Teacher Program.......

Anyone ever heard of this guy?

Anonymous said...

Never heard of him myself, but he was before my time also. Maybe Jimmy Morris or Don Moore may recall who he was and where he actually was from . Mystery to me.

YEah-
That's Dave Vineyard.

I can't believe it's this late in the day and no one has made one peep about Jack Coleman in jail.
He does look nice and cleaned up, as does his yard.

Anonymous said...

I just wonder if Dave Vineyard is somehow related to Vineyard Townsend.

ROSE said...

VINNER.

His name is VINNER.

Not Vineyard.

Dolt.

LOL

I never heard of the name Vinner before. It's probably really Vineyard and Vinner is just how people pronounce it.

Jack Coleman is away on a three week vacation compliments of Clay county. TV and air conditioning provided including three meals a day, hot and cold running water. To the tune of approximately $1,000.Jack's ex wife is a major contributor to this as she paid a fine of $350.00 for her part in this. She is on a three week vacation too.
