REMEMBER. APPRECIATE. HONOR.

Memorial Day is a United States Federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who perished while in military service to their country. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, it was expanded after World War I to include casualties of any war or military action. [Wikipedia]

All gave some.

Some gave all.

Some are still giving.

From the bottom of my heart I Thank All who have served! Past, Present and Future. It just saddens my heart that we have to fight. Freedom is never free.
To all of the families of those who are currently serving, prayers, thoughts, positive energies to make sure they come home safe. And know, All who have fallen, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN! THANK YOU!

Veterans Day = Honor those that served. Everybody takes off & has a picnic.

Armed Forces Day = Honor those that are still serving. May 17 this year. Anybody know about it?

Today's my mom's birthday. I'm not in the best of moods. Rather than curl up & melt down, I think I'll rant & rave & carry on a little bit.

I heard the other day on the radio that high school drop-out rates are on the rise. They interviewed some lady - a Kanawha Co principal, I think (could be wrong) - who suggested longer school days and/or years. I have a better idea - how about BETTER TEACHERS?

The other day, one of my children came home yammering about how one of his teachers told him (repeatedly) he'd never make it into college. Great job, Ms. E! I can see you were paying close attention when they taught you about "positive reinforcment" & *encouragement*! I'll be recommending you for the Failure of the Year Award, but frankly, there's a lot of competition, so there's no guarantee you'll win.

Of course, there's really no need for college - all the kids can go to work for The Communicator as ace gossip reporters. Want to know who's messing around on who? Ask a middle schooler. Want to know who's getting a divorce? Ask a middle schooler. When the kids know every aspect of your personal life, Ms. M, you can't possibly be spending enough time on TEACHING. Remember that? What you're being paid for??

Good grief! The kids already know how to be smart-alecks. They certainly don't need you for that! Though I must say, some of you do seem to be experts.

Nasa sure knows how to spend our US tax dollars, their sending up a plumber to fix a 19 million dollar out house. If their worried about logs floating around in the cock pit, a bucket with a lid would do the trick. Heck they take space walks, pitch it out side.---------------

Looks like the porto-hunkys are fixin to seal the fate in the 08 election, Bill promises statehood, and ol whats her name, more lies. Remember appreciate, an honor that he was one of the chosen few to be impeached!---------------------------

I'm in Computer Hell. I've been here so long, I should be promoted to Computer Satan's assistant any day now!

Thanks for the birthday wishes!!

ROSE said...

Hey, look!! I dunno what happened, but lookit me! Back on my own blog at long last!! LOL

What'd I miss??

Well the Dundon Bridge is open, it rained today, and Obama is getting the nomination. Praise be, there will be a rib joint on every corner, and I hear their going to hand out free watermelons for the convention.

ROSE said...

Maybe we can get Dick Cheney to come & kick off the watermelon seed spitting contest. Maybe he'll even bring his Aunt Sister!

Can't wait to hear what Hillary has to say. I'd vote her for her if she'd run as an Independent & have Willie Nelson as her running mate ... but only because I'd hate to pass up the opportunity to vote for Willie.

BIG REWARD!!

Seems we have a thief in my neighborhood. A Polaris ATV was stolen the night before last. Black & silver with kickin' aluminum wheels. Anybody seen it?

Incidentally, the "reward" is most likely a severe butt-whoopin' for the punk who took it.

Anonymous said...

what's the difference in a ATV and a 4-wheeler?

Anonymous said...

Needs more school---good example, don't drop out!

ROSE said...

The cost. Sort of like the difference between a mere "lawyer" & an *attorney*. Polaris sells ATVs. Kawasaki & Suzuki sell 4-wheelers.

We're back under a tornado watch! And a flash flood watch! & the kids just got home from school, where there's no power! & yet ... the sun's shining bright ... Batten down the hatches!!

did you hear that two hour thunder storm last night. tween 12 and 2 here.

did you know that unless you have 5 open credit accounts on which you're making payments that it's a point against you if you ask for credit?

Anonymous said...

Hey Rose, you got any juice(power) over your way?

ROSE said...

Nope! We're runnin' on the generator. Can't you hear it??! LOL

Was there electricity when they sent the kids to school for 2 minutes yesterday? This close to the end of the school year, with the cost of diesel over the moon, it seems like somebody would have the financial sense to just say the hell with it.

So what's it like out there? I haven't left my house since I got home Tuesday afternoon. Lots of reports on the local news stations of tornadoes touching down.

It's barely June ... I hope this isn't indicative of how our summer is gonna be ...

ROSE said...

Here's a little something that strikes me as funny -

When you call AEP to report a power outage, you go through the whole "Press 1 ... 2 ... 14" routine. Once you've pressed 1 a few times, you get a recording that says, "If you are experiencing a life threatening situation, please hang up and call 911." ... Um ...

Does this mean that somebody has actually experienced a life threatening situation & instead of taking 2 seconds to dial 911, actually dialed all 11 numbers to get through to AEP, listened to their recordings, then just fell over dead??

Anonymous said...

Hey Rosey, shut that contraption off, we can hear it clear over here in Newton!

ROSE said...

LOL I don't doubt that one bit!!

We FINALLY have power!! Not a moment too soon, either. We turned the generator off & left here, only to discover when we got home that we couldn't restart it, so we didn't even have a fan. I'm a total lightweight when it comes to heat, so by 4:30, I'd had enough & went to the car to turn the AC on full blast. LOL I shoulda done that a lot earlier, because I wasn't out there 10 minutes when WOOOO HOOOOOO!! the porch light came on, the AC kicked on & OMG, life was good again!!

Anonymous said...

hey Rose try sticking your feet in a pan of cold water when it gets hot. it helps.

ROSE said...

LOL We didn't have water, either!

Fortunately, I'm a CRPSD customer (you don't hear that very often, do ya?). This means 1) I know to fill the bathtub as soon as the power goes & 2) Tyler Mountain comes to my house on a regular basis.

Here's what I wonder about. Despite all the talk about global warming, the record temperatures they give on the news every day are always set "back in" ... 1929 or 1940 ... or whatever. Certainly before everybody had AC that ruined them forever. How on earth did people stand it?!

Miss Rose, that story was purty good, though it did take me a piece to figure it out.

ROSE said...

LOL All I really had to say was, "I sat in the car with the AC full blast until the power came back on." Or maybe not even that much. LOL
