ROGATION SUNDAY ...

Today's the day globally recognized to ask God's blessing for the seed, the soil, the crops & all He created.

Those of you who don't believe in Creation can just call up PETA & thank them for their continuing campaign.

When I was a kid, there were many versions of Grace before a meal.

My grandpa's was more of a chant (Thank you Faaaaaaaather for this fooooooooood, bless it to us it's intended uuuuuuuuuuuuuse ...). We kids got away with the simpler "God is great, God is good" version. Spending the night with friends always offered something you'd never heard before.

Here's one of my favorites:

Praise the Father, the Son & the Holy Ghost. Whoever eats the fastest eats the most. Amen.

Thank you, father, for this food.
I hope it's enough to feed this brood.

Have you ever watched Shepard's Chapel in the morning? I'm wondering what religion they represent. That dude who reads/answers the questions is a bit on the ... harsh side.

Anonymous said...

From the sound of it it must be something off the wall as most religions are. Fruitcakes bloom every day and call themselves Christian but most of them you can wipe more christianity off your butt then they will ever have if you have been saved. Christian or to be christ like never has entered into their vocabulary and most know more words that start with MFer then a sailor. Yeah I know Judge not lest you be judged but read a little deeper and let the word be the judge of the works from the workers of iniquity. Useless I tell you just useless.

Anonymous said...

I am sure you have noticed that those tele-evangelists take money from the very poor to put into stately mansions for their own use.

Anonymous said...

Yeah Ive seen that Shepherd's Chapel show.
They should call it "The Gospel According To US."

They have taken that verse, "I am the way, the truth and the light" as their own slogan, only they have substituted "We" for "I".

I was afraid it was just my own personal misunderstanding of the Shepard's Chapel show. Glad to see it's not just me!

Anything good happening in Clay lately? I make it "to town" probably once a month or so - so far this month, I'm averaging once a week & still managing to miss out on everything ... LOL

See where the chevy man plead guilty to child porn today in charleston. And one of Clays finest!

Anonymous said...

If that's one of the finest, I don't even want to know about the worst.

ROSE said...

See, that's why you should never envy people who appear to "have it all." They've usually got bigger problems than you'd even want to think about.

Clay's finest, indeed. Pffffffft.

I'd venture to say that it was meant for TG.

I find it odd that is disappeared almost as quickly as it appeared, well except the one star on pisgah side. Tell me, who in this town would act so quickly towards anything much less graffiti?

ROSE said...

Well ... here's a 25 year old story for ya. Back when I was in 12th grade, there was a girl who wanted my boyfriend. I told her if she could "get him," she was welcome to him; if his standards were only as high as her obnoxious behind, I had no use for him.

Anyway, she wrote "Rose is a b*tch" on the pristine bathroom wall at Clay High. Within an hour, Principal Link was making her clean the wall. Grafitti has no place in Clay.

Except for the Queen Shoals bridge. Man, there's some seriously ticked off chick with an unlimited supply of spray paint!

Good morning, all you rays of sunshine!

It's an easy thing to file a complaint with the PSC. They have to deal with every single one, so send plenty.

The problem with the Town Council (one of the many) is that you have to live in town to be a member - it's a nice to place to visit, but who wants to live there?

Did all you early planters save the tomatoes? January fogs predict May frosts, but who can remember that far back? Hopefully, this year the *#$%! deer will stay out of the garden. If they show up like they did last year, I'll shoot the deer, shoot the dog & heck, I might even shoot the tomatoes.

Anonymous said...

January fogs predict May frosts,

No Ms Rose its the Feb. Fogs that equal frost in May but who cares about what governs it right. Just get it out of here. The only thing we get from Canada is cold weather so I'm going Mexicana for the weather. My 6 tomatoe plants are looking well so far but this cold weather ruined the hay crop again this year. Stunted everything around here including me. Enjoy the 80's weather this week, rain on the way again for Sunday night and Monday.

Thank a veteran, some have never heard the words Thank You for the service given for this country, the people living here and for the Freedoms we enjoy though they get fewer everyday.

I wonder, I wonder. what can I say. It must be clean it must not smell how much closer can we get to, well now that's a thought, where's the corn. we need a comedienne someone to make us laugh not mourn, who, I haven't a clue.

ROSE said...

LOL I don't think I even want to know what that means once it's translated.

Usually by this time of year, we're halfwy packed for vacation, reservations have been made & the excitement's building. This year, we can't even decide where we're going - anybody got any ideas? It might come down to "anybody wanna go to Gettysburg with me?"! LOL

Anonymous said...

Ms Rose I go on Vacation every year and ususally go to Go Mart and get a cup of coffee, a tank full of gas and back home again. Inexpensive but neverthless a vacation and it only takes a hour to do. Tell the family you decided to do the same and watch the ideas come out and fastttttttttttttttter then fast. I may even tour Bomont this year while vacating.

ROSE said...

LOL Bomont's nice this time of year.

Heard a call come across the scanner while ago for "any available Clay officer." Seems some dude was at GoMart & spotted a bunch of his stolen stuff in a truck in the parking lot & called the police. Sheriff Holcomb comes back with, "Tell him to come to the old court house; we're all here waiting to go to court."

So ... when you want to commit a crime, just do it on court days - the police obviously can't be bothered to answer calls when they're waiting to appear before the judge.

Have you seen the pictures of the new & improved library over on AWs site? When we went by there around 5 or so Wednesday, there were a lot of vehicles parked out front. I don't know if those people were all at the library or not, but the whole place looked much less ... dejected. Someday, I hope to actually go inside & see if the improvements extend beyond the front door.

Anonymous said...

I wish the librarys employees smoked out back or at the side door instead of smoking at the entrance, makes it look so trashy and un welcoming for children.

ROSE said...

Sorta like the nurses at W&C Hospital?

I wouldn't think the employees would make the place look any trashier than the patrons or the people who just happen to be walking by & stop to chat. There should be a designated smoking area for *everybody*. Give the health department time - I'm sure they'll swoop down & cause a ruckus just as soon as they get around to it.

ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.
ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc.; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.
ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful; do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.
ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes .
ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care.
ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair..
ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others.. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure.
ARTICLE VIII: You=2 0do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful. (AMEN!)
ARTICLE IX: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.
ARTICLE X: This is an English speaki ng country. We don't care where you are from, English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you came from! (Lastly....)
ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all; with no fear of persecution The phrase IN GOD WE TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable with it, TOUGH!

Anonymous said...

And just maybe they were not as innocent as the media makes them out to be. Most that are in the line of fire choose to be there. Most in this war today are packing some type of explosive device to kill our soldiers with.

If we were fighting a war here and they caught you with anything to harm the enemy with they would give you a prison sentence but not so in other countries. As in VN war, kill them all let God sort them out.

May not have any business over there but after holding the USA hostage since back in the late 1970
its better to be there then to have it over here. Trust me if you never been in a war zone you are blessed

After killing American citizens for over 30 years whenever they took the notion I am glad for a president with enough backbone to drop bombs on both countries that we are now in war with.

I ran gauntlets in every airport across this country with nay sayers and draft dodgers in a war that was not of my choice but nevertheless I fought it so other generations of idiots can cry about things they know absolutely nothing about but yet have the freedoms to express what they think is right just because I did fight for your freedoms along with four other brothers. Your best bet would be do a little research of history of the Muslim countries or better yet talk to the parents of one of the kids that gave their life so you can spew your venium about how awful it is to retaliate for lives given at the hands of evil doers on land seas and in the air around this world and not have a conscience about doing so.

Tell this kid's mom he died for nothing.

WASHINGTON -- There is a new name to be added to the list of West Virginians who have died serving their country.
Chief Warrant Officer Four Brent S. Cole, 38, of Reedsville in Preston County, was killed when his AH-64D Longbow Apache helicopter went down near the town of Tarin Kowt, in the Oruzgan Province of Afghanistan on Friday, according to the 82nd Airborne Division Public Affairs Office.

Cole served as an AH-64D Instructor Pilot and Safety Officer for Company C, 1st Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB), (Task Force Wolfpack), 82nd Abn. Div.

Anonymous said...

my opinion......the kid did die for nothing. he died for oil and for U.S. power hungry politicians. he volunteered to go fight in a religious war that has been going on for centuries...a fight that will never end and one which the U.S. has no business intervening. he should have refused to go.

the United States is a big bully. no wonder the rest of the world hates us.

Nuke them til they glow in the dark.

I dont even read the communicator. I form my own opinion and I am very well read on the subject.

Yes, Clinton is a hero for dodging the draft. I don't care what (or who) he did on the desk, under the desk, or behind the desk. At least he didn't kill children in the name of war and "freedom" (that term makes me laugh).

Anonymous said...

No he didn't kill children.. he molested them!! That sure makes freedom sound sooooo much better doesn't it?

ROSE said...

Good grief. My computer crashes & y'all lose your mind.

Here's the thing about war, regardless of who declares it, regardless of whether civilians think it's right or wrong, regardless of how much some of you don't appreciate the sacrifice - it sucks.

The thing we all need to remember, though, is that our military was called to duty & they answered that call. If they all sat around & p*ssed & moaned like some of you do, none of us would be here to b*tch about it because *we'd* be the ones hosting the war.

There was a show on PBS the other night called "Hallowed Ground" - it was all about the millions of American soldiers buried in foreign countries.

It says a lot about America that German & Netherland & French citizens pay our fallen soldiers more respect & appreciate the freedom they fought for more than their own neighbors at home.

Go ahead & laugh, Anon. That's your right as an American. I hope one day you laugh in the face of a military man who kicks your a** hard enough to knock your head out of it.

Anonymous said...

LOL Riled up ain't ya?

ROSE said...

Yeah, I reckon I was! & that's all I'm gonna say about it, lest I get all riled up again! LOL

What I meant to talk about was Memorial Day & get caught up on all I've missed while our computer was taking a break. I guess I'm just easily distracted.

Looks like Obama's now looking into options to "punish" North Korea for violating international law. When G.W. declared war, he was pretty sure Iraq didn't have weapons of mass destruction & figured we could take 'em. Looks like taking on a country you *know* has the weapons to annilihate you would take a little more finesse.

Anonymous said...

You got it going there Ms Rose said with finesse. War is a horrible ordeal but S**t happens that we have no control of. That lille pukey punk in N.Korea and the one in Iran are just itching to get a few nukes dropped on them and its getting closer everyday.

Just wonder if it will be WW3 when it happens or if the most of the liberated by USA countries will whimp out like always. A lot of the older generations overseas are thankful for the soldiers keeping them safe but the ones who have never seen what their lives are like before the USA steps in will never know what its about anyways and will go on sniveling about how bad it is here in the USA. Living in a country where you can talk to someone about anything you want and say what you want to say has no comparison to the countrys around the world where if you are a store clerk you can't say more then hi to a customer for fear of being shot on scene for doing so. Big difference being here and there.

ROSE said...

... the ones who have never seen what their lives are like before the USA steps in will never know what its about anyways and will go on sniveling about how bad it is here in the USA."

AMEN.

Therein lies the problem with America - when the Twin Towers fell, everybody was ready to take on the world & kill 'em all. A year later, we weren't seeing it on the news 24/7 & eased back into our comfort zone, figuring if we ignored the on-going war, it'd go away. Years & years later, we've completely forgotten what it felt like to watch those towers fall & how we all wanted every dark-skinned, Arab-looking man to die a horrible death. Now, when those same Arab-looking men are killing *our* guys, *we're* the bad guys.

It's been said before & it needs to be repeated often - freedom is not free. Not for the ones fighting for it, not for the ones praying for it, not for the ones who have never known life any other way.

I invite each & every one of you who "hates" America to visit a veteran's home. Sit down & give those lost, lonely, misplaced, broken, maimed HEROES just 15 minutes of your time. Listen to what they have to say, what they've lived through, what they sacrificed so *you* could have the freedom to get up & leave any time you want. Then, right before you walk out the door, tell them they should've refused. Tell them they left their limbs in a stinking foreign country for nothing. Tell them you don't appreciate what they've done for you & your country.

If you can do all that, I invite you to come to MY house.

Anonymous said...

Ms. Rose you either need anger management or your own talk show. lol

Anonymous said...

When the towers went down then America finally experienced what nearly every other country in the world has dealt with for centuries. America was way overdue.

Anonymous said...

People on this site always talk about this freedom thing and I always wonder what you all think freedom is. I seriously doubt we all define it the same way.

ROSE said...

LOL I'm giving myself an award today for being the most patriotic person to this site!

I love my country. I love that we can all dress the way we want, regardless of how horribly wrong a lot of us are about how good we look. I love that we can say whatever we want, regardless of how wrong we might be. I love that I can trash my country's government without fearing the big bad men with the automatic weapons beating down my door & dragging me away. I love that we as Americans are the most egotistical, self-righteous bullies on the planet. I love that I can publicly denounce a war we've got no business fighting without taking anything away from the soldiers fighting it. I love that our military is voluntary & there are enough volunteers that my husband & children aren't automatically going off to war. I love that there's food on my table, a roof over my head, gas in my car & it's all paid for with money I - an undereducated woman - help pay for with money I earn from a job I love. I love that I don't live in fear. I love that I wake up to blue skies, green grass & birds singing.

These are some of the things that freedom means to me. None of these things - or the million others that mean "freedom" to me - are "free." If you think they are, congratulations. You're obviously World Royalty & why you'd waste your time with us peons is beyond me.

I love that I am *free* enough to put my name to this comment.

Anonymous said...

Well said Ms Rose on both your comments, the last two especially.

Freedom just another word for nothing left to do. Janis Joplin

No other country in the world has what we have in America and no other Nation on earth can brag about that. To wake up in a foreign land where that is not possible is one of the strangest things that can happen to you.

I think if we had the Draft back and were required to serve this country in some form is what our country needs. You would not see the things going on on the streets and in our neighborhoods. It at least gave people something to do with their time instead of Nothing Left To Do. It learns you work ethics and responsibility if nothing else and it gives you an opportunity to see what other people have to tolerate to live every day and most the places I have gone the sites were not very pretty to look at when it comes to Humanity.

American Girls and American Guys
We'll always stand up and salute
We'll always recognize
When we see Old Glory Flying
There's a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head

My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Until the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flyin' in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shakin' her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringin' her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
'Cause we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty

Good morning, all you rays of sunshine!

Here's a funny (or not) little visual to start your day. I keep a big, econo-size can of cheap hairspray to use on spiders (flies, etc.) that get in my house. This morning, I was minding my business, getting ready for work, when a rogue wasp dive bombed me. I grab the can, give him a thorough spray, he starts a free fall & lands right on my bare foot. I'm doing a pee-pee dance all around the bathroom, spraying & stomping & telling this hapless wasp what a horrible death he's about to experience. The more he tries to get away, the more I spray. My bathroom is now covered in a not-so-fine carpet of cheap (read "sticky") hairspray, the wasp is on his way to the septic tank & instead of cleaning the mess & getting out the door on time, here I sit, sharing my experience with *you*. LOL
