HAPPY MAY!!

School's almost out, it's almost time for vacation, everything's green, green, green. It's almost like that long, hateful winter never even happened! ... almost, but not quite ...

It's not too late to head over to the H.E. White ramp dinner! I hear the ramps are "better than last year!" - I don't know about that, but the rest of it is SCRUMP-DELI-ISH-US!

Watch your vehicle, though - they don't have anybody directing traffic this year & several vehicles got bumped/dented/blocked in.

sherlock said...

boring day, wonder why JM run his 4wheeler into the river? wonder where JM went after abandoning the evidence?

ROSE said...

Were any of y'all at the ramp dinner this morning around 11:30-11:45 or so? Maybe even noon. There was a white-haired guy there pushing a lady in a wheelchair. He was EXTREMELY RUDE. Anybody know who he was?

Anonymous said...

Santa?
No, that couldn't be, wrong time of the year.

ROSE said...

Definitely not Santa. I've got it on good authority it was Mr. Whitteker of "I'm gonna make Clay rich!" fame.

Whitteker ... Bill "I'm gonna put you all to work & buy you a house & give you a pot of gold" Whitteker.

Several people commented on his loud, rude, obnoxious behavior. Hard to imagine he was ever able to "charm" anybody.

That's what you get for voting the incumbents out.

Let's see...We've had two recent bridges...both in Clay going to secondary roads. The Hartland bridge is a main route going through the county, with a sixteen ton weight limit which it has had for several years. In order for this county to grow you have to have infrastructure. And with the same Ol'politicans who only worry about Clay, we are just going to continue to tread water. So if you want changes start with new people, maybe it will change very slowly but lets take that chance.

Anonymous said...

I heard from my brother's boss's wife's mother's neighbor's nephew's step-son's teacher that that's not true.

Anonymous said...

But, if it is, it would be a Burns!de.

Anonymous said...

I will stick to my first observation. While Fran the man and the other two were selling out Clay county jobs she was putting up a front for Boggs trucking as if to fight for jobs.Yea rite then she helped get Fola a multimilllion dollar tax decrease so Boggs Trucking can make up the difference next year. Now Mary Boggs just how stupid is that? Thats how it was done folks and you can take ir from the BANK to pay next year for the new tax increase, school bond levy, Taxed in Clay for working there, Tax for taxing tax and then we can get more taxes.

VOTE Fran King family out, Vote Connie Workman OUT. Randy White OUT, and any other incumbant OUT. Then be happy you have contributed in breaking the CHAIN around the citizens neck from Government. That only if you have any 8@lls and are not hooked to the school system.

Vote for Virginia Graf!
Throw Shelly Moore Capito out.
What has she done for Clay County?
Nothing!
I thought while we were on the "vote the incumbents out" kick.
You said all of them.

Anonymous said...

Yes all of them out the door why shoule we have to pay their retirement plan when we don't have one ourselves and if we work our life away they have it arranged so the company can run off with the retirement funds and not have an obligation to pay retirements.

Government employess and school teachers are the only people with a guaranteed retirement plan. And thats paid for by you the working class. Seems a bit unfair to me.

Anonymous said...

So government employees and teachers dont have to pay for their
retirement plans?

Is that what you're saying?

There is a teacher in my family.

Do you realize what they have to do to hold that job?

High School degree first, which is more than most of their detractors achieve, then college, and even post graduate school for a Master's degree.

And they pay taxes and everything else. Including lunch bills for their kids and themselves while most of the other kids in school dance down the lunch line for free, wearing their voucher clothes and flashing their medical card braces and glasses.

That "guaranteed" retirement plan takes a big chunk out every check too.

Anonymous said...

So that means the next person to hold the office supposedly gets a free retirement too, right?
Looks like it's better to let the old ones in.
That way we don't have another one sucking the taxpayer teet.
Just the same ones.
Makes sense, I'm glad you pointed that out to me.
I'm voting them all back in.

Anonymous said...

On another note, you say Elvis isn't dead.
http://www.newser.com/ says he died of chronic constipation.
Read the book, The King an Dr. Nick.

Anonymous said...

So government employees and teachers dont have to pay for their
retirement plans?

Is that what you're saying?

The next time you go to the insurance office or get your bill down at the bottom you will find a surcharge, what is the surcharge? It goes into the teachers retirement fund for any insurance you pay in Wv. Home, Automobile, or healthcare its there and its at the rate of 1%.

As for voting them back in, in the county they have to serve more then one term and have so many years in to draw a retirement so therefore vote them out why should the taxpayers have the burden of paying the leaches and I do mean all leaches, welfare leaches included.

One Osprey costs $70 million, and Bell-Boeing has sold some 450 of the things to the Marines, the Navy and the Air Force. If you don't have a calculator close at hand, that comes to $31,500,000,000.00. Spelled out, that's thirty one billion five hundred million dollars of your money.
Now, let's see.
The residents of Tennessee and surrounding states had the heavens open up on them last week, causing floods of catastrophic proportions that killed dozens of people and wiped out an as-yet undetermined number of homes. Dealing with this calamity is going to cost hundreds of millions of dollars, if not more.
A massive and ongoing oil disaster is threatening the entire Gulf Coast, as well as much of the Eastern seaboard and the ocean beyond if the oil gets into the Gulf's loop current. While British Petroleum is expected to shoulder the financial burden of the clean-up, the damage to fishing and tourism will again run into the hundreds of millions, if not more. For the record, the first of the oil officially made landfall in Louisiana on Thursday, and more is sure to come.
We are still fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Both conflicts cost the American taxpayers millions of dollars a minute, and have cost hundreds of billions of dollars already, and that's leaving out the burdens placed on tens of thousands of families whose son or daughter or father or mother or brother or sister was killed or maimed since the invasions were undertaken a decade ago.
Wall Street bandits have raped the futures of millions of people, annihilated their savings and retirement and cost them their homes. Millions more remain unemployed, and require hundreds of millions in unemployment and other hardship benefits, if not more. The Bush administration TARP bailout alone cost $89 billion, and that's before we get into the cost of President Obama's "American Recovery and Investment Act." Thanks to the evil dealings of the aforementioned bandits, and their facilitators in Washington, DC, it's difficult to argue against the necessity of those expenditures ... but, damn.
The Federal government, as well as all 50 states, have been undertaking a series of extreme austerity measures in order to make up for the financial shortfall the nation has been experiencing during this supply-side, trickle-down, right-wing recession. Taxes on soda drinks, taxes on everything that moves, school budgets pillaged, libraries closed and as many budgetary holes as possible filled with federal money the federal government can't afford to spend.
But wait, what about those Ospreys? What about the $31 billion spent on spiffy, dysfunctional helicopters we absolutely do not need, even if they did work? What about the billions stolen by US "defense" contractors in an orgy of fraud in Iraq? What about the $1 trillion allocated this year alone for the "national defense" budget?
Just dumping the Osprey program would have given us enough money to pay for the disasters in Tennessee and the Gulf, with a whole lot left over to help those affected by the recession and the Wall Street thievery. Shaving the tiniest percent off the 2010 "defense" budget would feed, clothe and educate every person of woman born in the United States, and we'd still have the most awesomely formidable military arsenal in the history of the galaxy.
But we don't talk about that stuff. We close libraries, cut education budgets, tax everything, and borrow from our children's future instead of tapping into the awesome reservoir of taxpayer cash shoveled into the Pentagon each and every year.
And, oh yeah, we get weaponry scattered across my city that taxpayers can oooh and aaaah at as a booby prize for the trillions they've had stolen from them to pay for a bunch of crap that looks good flying overhead, but doesn't do anything to keep them safe.
Psssst, Mr. Obama: tap the defense budget. We can be out of this recession in the morning.

Anonymous said...

I'd rather pay for defense than see my taxes go to illegal immigrants and third-fourth-and fifth generation welfare leeches.

Anonymous said...

Not when defense is 57% of the budget, and social services only account for 4% tops.
And the pentagon wastes are many and close together.
I remember the $21 ashtrays they made back in the 70's, they were mayonnaise jar lids.
Not to mention the skidloads full of cash that just disappeared into thin air before they even made it to Iraq to win Iraqi hearts and minds.
Wake up!

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public hearing next week on May 18 at 7 p.m. in Charleston, W.Va., at the Charleston Civic Center (South Hall) to hear comments from the public on EPA's decision to revoke a surface mining permit for the Spruce Mine.

We need you to attend the hearing and speak out against EPA's decision to void an operating permit that the Spruce Mine had spent years securing.

EPA's decision will effectively shutter the Spruce Mine, leading to lost jobs and economic devastation in communities that depend on the mine.

If EPA's quasi-legal attack on the Spruce Mine is not challenged, other surface mining operations in Appalachia will see their permits revoked and soon permits for all types of mining throughout Appalachia will come under threat.

America relies on Appalachian mining to supply the coal needed to generate affordable electricity and Appalachia relies on thousands of high-paying coal mining jobs.

If you can attend, please do so and show your support for Appalachian coal. We hope to see you there.

What you need to know:

If you wish to speak at the May 18 hearing, you can pre-register by going to http://sprucehearing.eventbrite.com/. You may also register by phone at 877-368-3552.

Q: When and where is the Public Hearing for the Spruce No. 1 Surface Mine Proposed Determination?

A: EPA Region 3 will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Charleston Civic Center (South Hall) in Charleston, West Virginia.

Q: Where is the Civic Center located?

A: The Charleston Civic Center is located at 200 Civic Center Drive, Charleston, West Virginia. Their phone number is 304-345-1500.

Q: What is the purpose of the Public Hearing?

A: EPA is holding the public hearing to obtain public testimony or comment on EPA's proposed 404(c) action on the Spruce No. 1 Mine project.

Q: Is the Public Hearing open to anyone?

A: Anyone may appear at the hearing and submit oral and/or written statements or data. On-site registration to speak will begin at 5 p.m.

Q: What about people who have special needs?

A: For those who have special needs and require auxiliary aids and/or services to fully participate in the public hearing, please call 215-814-2760.

We all knew you when you could barely make it through school and long before you ever lucked your way into being a deputy.

You are NOT better than anybody in this county and you are NOT judge jury and firing squad.

You are a deputy of the law. That law applies to YOU same as everybody else. You do NOT own the highway, you do NOT have the right to force other people in the ditch and you do NOT have the right to harrass people just because they p*$$ you off.

It's time to stop pussyfooting around this PROBLEM in Clay County & get something done about this before somebody gets KILLED.

I don't know if they are civil service or not but if they are you can't just fire them although that's what they all need.
