The other day, I made a trip to Clay. On the way home, I stopped at GoMart. The lady in front of me was buying a pack of cigarettets (~$5) & an order of pasta salad "for her lunch" ($2.77). When she found out the EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) machine wasn't working, instead of putting back the cigarettes, she returned the pasta salad & used her cash to pay for the cigarettes.

We don't have an obesity problem in this country - we have a priority problem.

The U.S. Olympic team aced the Winter Olympics with 37 medals - 9 gold.

Yesterday, my eldest brother turned 50!

West Virginia is getting more than $130 million from the federal government to improve broadbrand Internet access.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and Sen. Jay Rockefeller announced the project Thursday.

The money will pay for high-speed Internet service to an estimated 471 schools. It's also expected to pay for better Internet access at more than 170 public libraries, jails, county courthouses and other sites.

We survived the Storm of the Century in December, the frigid cold of January & oh, happy day, I don't care what some stupid groundhog has to say, Spring's coming next month!!

& then ...

... the sun came out, the snow melted & it was all over but the telling of the stories. Life is good.

FINALLY!! After NINE FLIPPIN DAYS without a phone, there's a dial tone!! Even those of us with dial-up feel like we've rejoined civilization again!!

I understand the storm was big. I understand there are still people without power. I fully appreciate that my water came back on, my electricity came back on & we never ran out of propane for the heater. I am not the least bit impressed with Verizon's. Not on any level of their operation.

I sincerely hope everybody with Verizon who hasn't had phone service has filed a complaint with the PSC. I know I have!
