I was going to post about the Challenger - today's the 20 year anniversary - but ... we've got enough "fresh" tragedy to dwell on, I think.

Ok, to be fair, let's compare the candidates:
First, let's look at their websites. Jimmy's...nope, he's never had one. Link's has nice pictures of him reading to children. MPs has fat naked guys, naked women & other pornographic stuff. Ooops! Sorry! She deleted those. Now she has lots of dorky little smiley faces.
Second, let's look at what they bring to the table. Jimmy has 12+ years of experience as a commish. Link has 30+ years as an educator. MP has...online classes.
Third, let's look at perception. Are Link & Jimmy TV & news stars like MP? I guess that makes her the winner for being so photogenic.

We often wonder why our county is in the shape it is in. Can you not read these blogs and understand why we deserve where we are. We need to step up to the plate and focus on real issues such as water, sewer, recreation for our youth, jobs, trash and litter, junk cars, health issues, and a financial deficit. This is a serious situation for us, our children, parents and grandchildren. Anyone and everyone has a right to sign up for office but we elect them. When Fran King was running she told me something I had never thought of before. Voting is something that rich and poor count the same. I never thought of it that way but it is true and by the right vote we can be a little richer or a lot poorer. Take this seriously let Melissa enter a new world of criticism where you cannot resort to violence. Let Jimmy tell what has done and will do. Let Link tell us what he will do and we will let him do. Then in May we pick one member of our future. I think we have made one good choice in the past let's make another.

Ya'll can vote whoever you want to into office but until Clay as whole (and not just a few of its residents) start caring about where they live, the place will never get any better. I would say a large majority of Clay residents don't have any pride in their county and they expect their elected officials to do EVERYTHING (and I'm not one by the way) while they sit back and talk about how nothing gets done. A little community involvement might go along way. But I think Clay is way past that and ALOT of community involvement in many many areas needs to happen. Don't ask me what I've done for my county, I already have a cause I've been working on, but I'm not naming it. That would defeat my purpose in signing as anonymous!: D teeheehee

I hate reading about George W. Bush, but I have to do it everyday. I doubt the papers would delete stories about him at my request. Not that I'm making any grand comparison between GWB and MP, cept I do not care for either of them. People are gonna post about her if they want. She still seems to have novelty appeal for some reason. Just skip over it and dont worry about the morbid curiosities of the rest of us. We're all okay with ourselves.

None of the current candidates for commission enters the race with a completely "sterling" reputation. All of them have been intimate with controversy of varying degrees at one time or another. However, we as a county have proven time and again that we make mountains out of molehills. We frequently create controversy where none really exists, so that intimacy may or may not have any bearing on anything.
Commissioners represent every one of us. They mingle with our delegates and senators, they meet with the governor, they make decisions that affect us all. When you cast your vote, you're saying you trust that person to represent you in these situations in the same manner you'd represent yourself. Having seen some of Clay County's citizens representing themselves in various settings, there are a lot of people I'd never vote for under any circumstances.
Personally, I'd like someone with a professional demeanor, the ability to communicate coherently, a high degree of competency and the overall wherewithal to win friends and influence people. This same person also has to convince me that s/he represents every single person in this county, not just The Chosen Few. There is a Poorest Person in the County and a Richest Person in the County - both & all in between are represented by the same county commission and affected by the decisions they make.
I don't know what MPs chances are of getting herself elected. However, she's to be commended for at least making a statement & throwing herself to the wolves in an attempt to have her voice heard. None of the rest of us even bothered to try.

brulz, I read the post you wrote about your son with interest since I have two boys myself. Consequently yesterday, I also had a conversation with the mom of my boy's friends, who also has two boys, about this very subjuect and our boys are all still in grade school. We concluded with the fact that early communication will be key in trying to keep out boys out of trouble and unwanted situations. You are so right that the girls will be believed before the boys are. And from some of the girls I have seen (even in primary school), I think that makes a very sad statement. I started with mine very early and so I feel I did the best I could and when all is said and done, myself and the other grandparents have a precious grandson so we got to start worrying all over again a few years back. lol. Keeping fingers crossed, since now have another grandson and granddaughter. Whew!!

I hope that every parent and every grandparent votes against David Pierson for him openly supporting a lesbian getting custody of her lovers child over the grandparents. He will tell you himself that the lady his secretary lived with deserved the child rather than the mothers family. Now this child lives in a home with two female parents and drugs and God knows what else and David helped hire the lawyer and lets them live in his double wide rent free.
6:59 anon. Do you have proof of the allegations of drug use? If so, then take it to the Prosecuting Attorney or do something. That is a serious accusation to make against any parent no matter what their sexual orientation might be. I don't understand the gay lifestyle but I don't judge people by that alone. To the anonymous homophobe. I don't condone drug use in any home whether the parents are straight or gay. That's just simply something that shouldn't happen, particularly around children of any age.
But to judge someone's parenting abilities or think you have any idea about how much they love or care about their child based on their sexual orientation makes no sense in some cases. When MP chose to maintain a website specifically advertising itself as the pipeline for all things CRPSD, she assumed a certain amount of responsibility for the overall perception created by that site.

Groundhog is yummy!! :P Tastes a whole lot like chicken to me...but has a stronger flavor. We always boiled it, then took it off the bones, rolled it in flour and fried it.

Soaked in salt water over night to take away the game taste, then into the pressure cooker it would go, then the rest of the recipe was pretty much the same. much like making up squirrel. Darn I know I spelled that wrong. When we was growing up, we did'nt have much else to eat, Pop caught a lot of coon too! DJE

Do y'all remember Jim Vance?? (Used to be a game warden here in Clay a long time ago.) When I was a little girl, I stayed with his family a lot. One of the things I remember most about being at their house was Jim's "Rat Gravy". (which was the name he jokingly gave squirrel gravy) LOL He made the best I've ever tasted. (Don't really know what this had to do with anything...but that's what this conversation made me think of, so I decided to share. LOL)
It's really funny that you mention how long it took to make the connection between your pet pigs and the pork you had for supper. My son gets all upset when he sees a dead deer, but he LOVES eating the deer meat. I tried to nicely explain the reason that people have dead deer in their trucks (and hanging in the trees) to him a few times, but he still hasn't quite made the connection. LOL
Ya know, this is bringing back a lot of those "Mommy Tales" my mother fed me as a child. The rabbit that "ran away" ? Supper, I'm sure.
