Channel 12 (WBOY) in Fairmont has local in-depth coverage, in addition to what's being broadcast by the Associated Press.

During an 11-week review that ended December 22nd, Federal inspectors cited the Sago Mine for 46 alleged violations of federal mine health and safety.

The federal Mining Health and Safety Administration issued over 200 citations against the mine for the entire year of 2005. Only 68 were issued in 2004.

State inspectors issued 144 notices of violation at Sago last year, compared to 74 in 2004.

Press conference at 7:30.

This is my horoscope (Cancer) for today. I'm taking it as a reminder:

Do something productive and proactive that makes the world a little bit nicer. Donate money or time to a worthy cause. Talk to a lonely neighbor who doesn't have much family around. Find ways to help.

I, as well as many of you, am the daughter of a coal miner. My dad is deceased now. I remember living in a coal camp and you had to pass all the "company" houses we lived in to get to the mines. I can remember the terror in my heart if my dad was in the mines when an ambulance went up the "holler". No one hardly breathed until we got word about what had happened and to whom.

My heart goes out to the miners who are trapped and their fate is still unknown. I can only imagine what their families must be going through. Let's all keep praying for the miners and their families.

My mother, too, was "borned a coal miner's daughter." By the time her younger siblings came along, they belonged to the milk man - Grandpa changed jobs! HAHA That one always cracks me up!

Anyway, we watched FoxNews at lunch today. What an utterly heart-wrenching experience. I simply cannot imagine what it must be like, waiting & not knowing.

Coal mines have always been hateful mistresses. They give what they want; they take what they want. Let's all pray that this time, they give back at least a little bit of what they've taken.

I agree with the cowboy, who incidentally I think I know!! hmm, I wonder.. Great Falls Montana by any chance?? If so, how are things with you? :)

I think it's a horrible thing that these men are trapped! My daddy was a coal miner and other men in my family. Thankfully, he moved onto a different line of work and is now deceased.

But it is astounding that NO MATTER the situation at hand, MP still is getting fan fare!! Give me a break!

I for one, will continue to pray for the men & their families!!! Along with the rescue workers.

Take care ya'll!!

hahahaa I knew it had to be you! The one and only Cowboy that I know (kind of) :) Good grief!! Four more years ??
I thought you already hads plans for your life after the Force. Hmm? Ranch, cows, horses, ropin' & ridin'.. etc. sounded like a good plan to me.
Take care!!
Don't want to congest the blogs with chit-chat! Heavens knows what people will start saying...LOL

Take care cowboy!

Prayers still being sent up for the miners...God be with them!

Billy B? That was definitely one hellaciously long list of names. Might I suggest you continue your conversation with MP directly?

The federal Mining Safety and Health Administration has in-depth information about not just the Sago Mine, but all the mines in the US. Check out the fact sheets. No wonder the industry pays so well.

Melissa, as close as they follow you, you could probably just stop real quick & they'd all go right up your butt, where they seem to want to be. Then you could just pick them out like an annoying wedgie & be done with them.

You're welcome to post here anytime.

Can you believe the nerve of that guy telling the families of the miners trapped and the world that 12 miners was alive and then to go back and tell them that only one miner was alive. That is just wrong. He got the hopes of the families raised and they were there waiting on the miners to come up to join their families. The hopes were raised when he knew that they were deceased. Just awful.

From what I understand, it was all like a horrible game of "Gossip" from when we were kids. Somebody said something, somebody heard something else & misinformation spread like wildfire.

What a horrific emotional roller coaster. One that won't be over for quite some time.

lonestranger, thanks for clearing that up for me! You could very well be right on all counts.
